The New Imagined Subaru STI EV You Want This Year

I have been covering the all-new STI electric performance car, but when is it coming? Reports say it will return as a 2027 model. Subaru is working on a high-performance STI or maybe an STe (Subaru Tecnica electric), but let's start dreaming now before it gets here.

Subaru has yet to release much WRX STI EV information. However, I know Subaru had announced plans to electrify its lineup with eight new models coming by 2028. Like many other performance automakers, it's in response to increasing global demand for environmentally friendly sports cars.

I speculate that one of those new Subaru EVs will likely be the STI electric performance car. I'm hoping it's a hot hatchback and not a sedan. 

The new Subaru STI EV will feature high-performance electric motors, Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, advanced battery technology (from Toyota), and a new performance-oriented design and handling characteristics that honor the WRX STI heritage.

Imagine an all-new electric STI with high-torque motors producing 390 horsepower. The more powerful STI would lead the electric sports car segment and return the Japanese automaker to dominate. Subaru wouldn't be able to build them fast enough.

Keep in mind that actual specifications, release dates, and details about a potential 2027 Subaru WRX STI EV will depend on the Japanese automaker's strategic decisions with Subaru Tecnica International (Subaru's performance division) and developments in the EV market that are continually changing.

I covered the new electric Sport Mobility Concept when Subaru uncovered the performance model at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. In my opinion, Subaru is back to thinking outside the box and will push the limits again in a new electrified era. Subaru Corporation has a newly-appointed, forward-thinking CEO who is unafraid to try new things.

I will keep performance fans updated on all current information from Subaru Corporation about the new STI, any official announcements, and the latest industry performance car news.

Until then, it's fun to dream about the new Subaru WRX STI EV. It's time for Subaru Corporation to bring back the STI hatchback for its customers in North America and around the globe.
