Subaru fans in Australia are getting the new-generation 2018 XV (Crosstrek in the U.S.) and it’s already earned five stars for safety. It’s not a surprise as Subaru is all about safety and the Crosstrek gets the new Subaru Global Platform that improves crash protection considerably over the outgoing model.
The new Subaru Crosstrek scored a maximum five-star safety rating following the latest round of Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) testing. The Crosstrek achieved a “Good” pedestrian protection rating and a “Good” rating for whiplash protection, which applies to all trims.
Should it be a surprise?
One of Subaru’s core values is safety and it shows in how their vehicles perform in crash tests around the globe. Subaru spent $1 Billion dollars developing their new Global Platform (SGP) that will underpin every new-generation model and the 2018 Crosstrek now rides on the new architecture. The new SGP underpinning the new crossover improves crash energy absorption by 40 percent over present models keeping occupants safer in the event of a crash.
The 2018 Crosstrek is available with Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist system. It will now include Pre-Collision Braking Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Keep Assist function. The latest ANCAP tests prove the crossover offers class-leading collision safety and hazard avoidance performance.
Crosstrek’s new architecture is part of Subaru Corporation’s “Prominence 2020 mid-term management vision” which the automaker says delivers “enjoyment and peace of mind” for their customers. That enjoyment will come from the new-generation Crosstrek’s redesigned architecture that significantly enhances the body and chassis rigidity and strength.
The new safer 2018 Subaru XV (Crosstrek) gets the highest safety rating in Australia and enters the market down under with five stars. The new models will make their official dealer launch June 23, 2017.
