Subaru of America will announce the remodeled 2025 Subaru Outback next, which could be coming soon. The next-generation 2025 Outback will get significant upgrades from the 2024 model year. Here is what I know so far.
Planet Subaru says the all-new Outback for the 2025 model year will come with new exterior styling, interior, infotainment, and upgraded safety features. There is no further information there you didn't know.
But Planet Subaru says the 2025 Outback "Maybe even a new gas engine with even better fuel economy." I think Subaru will launch the new Outback with a hybrid powertrain.
There is no electric Outback yet.
Planet Subaru says, "We can say with considerable certainty that there will be no all-electric Outback for 2025 because Subaru introduced a dedicated battery-electric vehicle (the Solterra, in the 2023 model year) and it's similar to the Outback."
"To meet ever-more-demanding emissions regulations, however, we wouldn't be surprised to see Subaru lean on its engineering partner Toyota to offer a hybrid engine option similar to the Crosstrek Hybrid powertrain."
Could the new Outback get hybrid power?
This is speculation as Subaru is always tight-lipped about future product plans, and the automaker has made no announcements about the 2025 Outback.
I have written before that the Outback needs a hybrid powertrain to compete with the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Ford Explorer Hybrid, and Jeep Grand Cherokee Hybrid.
Subaru offers a 1.8-liter turbocharged direct-injection (DIT) engine in the Japanese-specification 2024 Outback. Subaru could couple the small turbocharged engine with the hybrid technology they are now developing with Toyota.
Subaru has not confirmed the 2025 Outback information, but it fits their goals and the Japanese automaker's revamped vision plan they announced earlier. We know now the 2025 Forester will get a new hybrid trim level, so it would make sense for Subaru to do the same with the next-generation Outback.

In January, Subaru of America revealed the redesigned Outback in a private meeting with its U.S. dealers. Limited information was disclosed about what the Subaru dealers saw and heard.
Jeff Williams, owner of Williams Subaru in Lansing, Michigan, told Automotive News that he predicted if production constraints fade away by the redesigned Outback's introduction, the new midsize SUV will return to its dominance in SOA's all-wheel-drive lineup as the automaker's top-selling model again.
As I've reported before, a fuel-stingy 2025 Subaru Outback Hybrid could be the model to propel the vehicle upward again. Stay tuned for the 2025 Subaru Outback announcement from Subaru.

As long as they get rid of all that ugly black cladding around the front end between the spoiler and the wheel well, I'll be happy. I was so glad I bought mine in 21, what they released last year looked cheap and nasty.

Exactly why I waited to buy mine in 2023! Older models looked like, well, for old people!

Comment & question: I love my 2023 Outback Touring XT. The only negative is the small rear view monitor. The 11 ½” screen is a waste and limits the rear camera view. Will Subaru ever improve that? I appreciate the daily Subaru articles and read them every night.

Upgrade the turbo to 200Kw & 400Nm & it'll fly out of dealers . But reducing fuel consumption from 9l/100km to around the late 7l/100km could be a challenge

I HAVE LEASED OUTBACK FOR THE PAST 9 YEARS. THE ONLY COMPLAINT IS ROAD NOISE. ARE THEY EVER GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS?

Much thanks on your reporting. I love my new 23 Onyx Xt turbo so with all the different pics of what the new Outback may look like - I hope it looks even better and for me how bout an Outback Sti with 300 to 350 hp - a hybrid is not off the table butt I’d rather Subaru make the money off me than worrying about my warranty with an aftermarket tune..
