The Outback Was Subaru’s 2nd Best Seller in July, But 1st Place Is The Shocker

What happened to the 2023 Subaru Forester? The compact SUV was the surprise model in July. See what the Forester just pulled off.

The 2023 Subaru Forester surprised everyone in July. The Forester compact SUV has been trailing in sales behind the newly-refreshed Subaru Outback midsize SUV and the hot Crosstrek subcompact SUV until July.

What happened to the 2023 Subaru Forester? For one thing, Subaru Corporation ramped up Forester production and has more Forester all-wheel-drive models to ship to its U.S. customers. The Forester has been in high demand, and customers can finally take delivery.

2023 Subaru Forester is now the number one seller in July

In June, the 2023 Subaru Forester compact SUV was third in SOA's lineup. In July, the Forester became the number-one selling all-wheel-drive model for Subaru of America. The Forester was up an impressive 87.5 percent, the most significant percentage of increase of any model.

SOA delivered 14,504 models to U.S. customers compared with 7,737 in July 2022. Forester is now up 29.2 percent in the first seven months of 2023. Even with an impressive July performance, Forester has 75,814 models sold in 2023 and remains in third place. If Forester's pace continues, it will be an exciting finish in 2023.

2023 Subaru Outback drops to second place behind the Forester

The Outback midsize SUV stays number one with 93,833 models delivered to Subaru of America's customers, and the Crosstrek subcompact SUV is number two in the all-wheel-drive lineup with 87,371 sales in the first seven months of 2023.

"We're closing July with another month of consecutive sales growth and poised to continue the momentum as we head into late summer," said Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales. "July also marked the return of Forester to the top of the sales list among our strong collection of adventure-ready vehicles. Enthusiasm for our Wilderness models, available in Outback, Forester, and, coming soon, Crosstrek, remains exceptionally high as car buyers plan their next adventure.”

What's next for the hot Forester?

Subaru of America has not announced the 2024 Subaru Forester, but a recent report says no changes will be made to the 2024 model year Forester. If the information is accurate, Subaru Corporation has decided to stand pat with the current-generation Forester for one more year before it gets a complete remodel.

I owned my first Subaru Forester a 2001 model. It was standard shift because we needed a flat tow vehicle while traveling in motor home. Subaru did not offer a tow vehicle wit an automatic transmission.
Our family would purchase a new Subaru but needs to be an automatic transmission since it would also be towed behind our motor home.
Subaru is missing the boat by not offering this option.
We currently tow a 2011 HONDA 4-wheel drive C-RV.
