2022 Subaru Forester sales have now fallen sales six months in a row. Subaru of America (SOA) reported July sales, and the refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester sales fell again for the sixth month. The last month Forester saw an increase in sales was January to start the new year.
The 2022 Forester compact SUV was down 36.8 percent compared with July 2021, with 7,737 models delivered to customers compared with 12,235 in July 2021. Forester is down 45.8 percent for the first seven months of 2022, the most of any all-wheel-drive SUV in SOA's lineup. Forester has 58,674 total sales in 2022 compared with 108,200 in 2021.
How does the Forester compare with Outback and Crosstrek sales?
In July, Subaru of America delivered 8,638 Subaru Outback midsize SUVs, a drop of 38,6 percent compared with July 2021 (14,058). The Outback remains the number one selling model in the first seven months, with 85,979 midsize SUVs delivered to customers, 27,305 more than Forester. Outback is down 15.4 percent year to date.
Crosstrek is ahead of Forester
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is the automaker's hottest model, with 14,076 subcompact SUVs delivered to customers in July. That's a 5.0 percent increase over July 2021 sales (13,402). Crosstrek is the second best-selling all-wheel-drive model for SOA, with 84,126 models delivered to customers through the first seven months. Crosstrek is one of the few models with a sales increase in 2022, up 8.4 percent this year. Crosstrek has outsold Forester by 25,452 models in 2022.
Why has Forester dropped nearly 50 percent this year??
Demand for the 2022 Subaru Forester is high, but many customers are unwilling to wait for the refreshed compact SUV. A source close to Subaru told us that the Forester wait times are longer than any other model in Subaru of America's all-wheel-drive lineup. Our source says he has two 2022 Forester compact SUVs on order for customers, and it will likely be six months to get delivery from when they placed the order.
According to a recent sales and export report from Subaru Corporation, the microchip shortage dropped its export total from Japan by 7.0 percent in June. Subaru manufactures the Forester in Japan, supplying all global markets and limiting supply to U.S. customers.
Subaru Corporation reveals production at the Subaru plant in Gunma, Japan, where the 2022 Forester is manufactured, has seen a drop in production (-0.8%) in the first six months of 2022. Subaru says it's the first year-over-year decrease in two years.
The refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester sales fall for the fifth month and drop nearly 50 percent through the first seven months of 2022. It's likely because customers aren't willing to wait six months to get one.

You can't sell what you don't have. 2022 Foresters were in short supply and they aren't even taking orders.

So happy I ordered my new Forester Touring in December. Got it in two months as promised. However, love Forester so much, I would wait 6 months. Hubby has Crosstrek but secretly wishes he had a Forester too. His 40-42 mpg helps though.

Sales drop because you can't

Sales drop because you can't get the Forester no dealer has one on the lot. If they do it's sold. U have to order one and it takes 6 months to get. So people r going with other Subarus on the lots. Crosstrek is the hottest selling vehicle out of the Subaru line in 2022.
