As the refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester models arrived in December, the compact SUV finished 2021 in the number one spot for Subaru of America, and it’s still the best-selling SUV in the all-wheel-drive lineup. Even with its top spot, the Subaru Forester dropped 13.0 percent with 13,930 models sold and finished the year as the top-selling model in the lineup with 154,723 models delivered to customers.
Subaru could have sold more new Forester compact SUVs, but retailers could not get as many as they wanted because of the ongoing global chip shortages. Jeff Walters, Senior Vice President of Sales Subaru of America, says, “2021 was a challenging year for the automotive industry, and our Subaru retailers rallied to achieve solid results.”

New upgrades for the 2022 model change
New for 2022, Forester gets a new ladder-type roof rail design offering a higher load capacity (220 lb. vs. 176 lb.) and an 800-lb. static load limit (vs. 700 lb.), allowing safe use of a roof-top tent. New tie-down locations have been integrated into the rails. Inside, two additional utility hooks have been added to the roof of the rear cargo area, and a brighter LED interior dome lamp with off-delay is now standard.
New safety technology
The EyeSight driver assist technology is upgraded on the Premium trim with the option package and all higher trim levels; The next-generation EyeSight now includes new automatic emergency steering. Subaru says the new feature works in conjunction with the pre-collision braking to assist with steering control to help avoid a collision at speeds less than 50 mph.
Increased towing capacity
All 2022 Forester trims now offer up to 3,000-lb. towing capacity (vs. 1,500) and features standard trailer stability assist. The additional tow rating will allow customers with active lifestyles to pull a small boat or camper.
What is the price of the 2022 Forester?
For the 2022 model change Forester comes in six trim levels; The base Forester starts at $26,320, Premium ($29,320), Sport ($30,890), Limited ($33,000), new Wilderness ($33,945), and Touring ($36,420). Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,125).

I keep reading articles and watching videos that say all 2022 Forester models have a towing capacity of 3,000 lbs but Subaru’s website shows that only the Wilderness edition is 3,000 lbs while all the others are only 1,500 lbs. Who is right?

Subaru's website does say the Forester Wilderness is the only trim level that has 3,000 lbs towing capacity all others have 1,500 lbs. The 2022 Forester press release says 3,000 lbs for the new Forester but isn't really clear if it's all trim levels. We will reach out to Subaru and find out.
