It was a coming out party for Subaru as they get their first-ever BTCC win. Two Subaru Levorg Team BMR drivers reached the podium at Oulton Park this weekend. Colin Turkington brought home the first victory for Subaru and the new Subaru Levorg Team BMR team. Team-mate Jason Plato finished in third place giving Subaru two spots on the podium.
Turkington secure the pole position on Saturday at Oulton Park and put the pedal down and never looked back. He took the lead in the first race and put together the perfect “lights-to-flag” race to bring home BMR’s first win of the season. It only took two races, and one missed race, for Subaru to win their first-ever BTCC win for the Japanese automaker.
After the second race things looked grim
During the second race of the season at Donington Park, James Cole’s Subaru Levorg caught fire and it led to team BMR withdrawing from Thruxton the following weekend. Subaru Levorg Team BMR made fixes to the fuel ancillary system that had been the problem. They fixed the fuel issue and had an impressive performance this weekend.
PAGE 2: Subaru’s first rear drive race car
Subaru is known for their all-wheel-drive race cars. This racer was another first for Subaru. BMR had to convert the all-wheel-drive Levorg wagon to rear drive. “It can be easily developed into rear-wheel drive to comply with the BTCC regulations so we can’t wait to see how it goes against very established competition.” Subaru has committed to a three year agreement with the team. It’s starting off in good way for the Japanese automaker.
BMR has Levorgs dialed in
It looks like they now have the cars dialed in and will compete for the Title. It’s an impressive double podium finish at Oulton Park for Subaru Levorg Team BMR and Subaru. It’s the manufacturer’s first attempt at the British Touring Car Championship and they get their first-ever win in the third race. Turkington gets the pole and gets the outright win in the new Subaru Levorg sports tourer.
