The Subaru Outback Boost Gear Kicks It Out Of Any Park

To discover what Subaru is thinking, look at their new concept vehicles. I cover the Tokyo Auto Salon annually, and Subaru brings two new Boost Gear Package models that offer a glimpse into what the Japanese automaker is thinking now. Subaru Corporation unveiled a new 2024 Outback Boost Gear outdoor package exhibited at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024 held on January 12 to 14, 2024. They also display a 2024 Subaru Forester Boost Gear package trim level that I covered in a previous story. 

What does it mean for active customers?

There is good news for outdoor enthusiasts. Subaru says they are both concept vehicles, so they won't be available for customers to buy. But it does give active customers what they can look forward to from the automaker in the future.

The Outback Boost Gear outdoor package kicks it out of the park. The National Parks, to be more specific. It's where the models are groomed to go. Subaru Corporation and Subaru of America are active in the National Parks system, so it's no surprise. 

Subaru keeps the National Parks a clean place for Subaru owners to play.

Subaru Corporation recently entered into a "National Park Official Partnership" with Japan's Ministry of the Environment. Subaru says they "work to promote the beautiful landscapes of Japan's world-renowned national parks and the unique experiences they offer to attract more visitors to these national parks from Japan and around the world."

"The program aims to foster a greater understanding of natural environment conservation and contribute to the vitalization of the local communities where these national parks are located."

In October, The National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) honored Subaru of America with the Centennial Leadership Award at its New York Gala for the automaker's ongoing commitment and support for our national parks.

"Subaru leads by example and lives by their principles, helping to inspire millions of people about how they can reduce their waste at our parks," said Theresa Pierno, President and CEO of the National Parks Conservation Association.

The Outback Boost Gear concept is about Overlanding.

Subaru promotes the outdoor National Park theme in the Outback Boost Gear model. They also talk about Overlanding, which active customers do with their Subaru all-wheel-drive vehicles. The Forester compact SUV and Outback midsize SUV epitomize what getting away from civilization and further off the grid is all about.

What is the difference between camping and Overlanding? Overlanding is getting further off the grid. Subaru enthusiasts have been combining road trips and taking their vehicles to less-explored locations for decades.

Subaru says, "The Outback Boost Gear concept car was customized with the theme of an Overlander that makes you want to go further, have more experiences, and play for longer."

Subaru enthusiasts have modified their all-wheel-drive vehicles with lift kits, underbody protection, and larger wheels and tires for decades. Subaru of America said we'll give our customers what they want—the rugged outdoor-themed Wilderness family. I have covered the Subaru Outback Wilderness trim level in detail. 

The Outback Wilderness, Forester Wilderness, and Crosstrek Wilderness are the Japanese automaker's best examples of its mindset for outdoor enthusiasts now. The Outback Boost Gear concept tells customers what the Japanese automakers will offer in the future.
