It's now 18 consecutive months of continued yearly month-over-month growth for Subaru of America. But it was close. SOA reported 44,510 vehicle sales for January 2024, a meager 0.8 percent increase compared with January 2023.
But it's still going in the right direction for the Camden, N.J. automaker.
"January was a strong sales start thanks to our retailers' hard work and commitment," said Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America, Inc. "With new models poised to join our current lineup of trusted vehicles, we have big goals for 2024, and we are confident it will be a winning year."
The 2024 Subaru Forester is the top-selling model to start the new year. I report Subaru of America's sales monthly, and Forester has been the hot model. It was Forester, followed closely by the Crosstrek and the Outback.
Forester is back on top.
SOA says the 2024 Forester compact SUV regained its position as the top performer by volume with 12,619 vehicle sales, a 24.8 percent increase over the same month in 2023.
Crosstrek and Outback are not far behind.
The next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV sales followed closely behind with 11,325 vehicles sold in January, and the 2024 Subaru Outback midsize SUV sales also remained strong with 11,300 sales to customers.

Here are the Subaru model rankings in January.
- Subaru Forester - 12,619 (+24.8%)
- Subaru Crosstrek - 11,325 (-10.9%)
- Subaru Outback - 11,300 (+8.5%)
- Subaru Ascent - 3,718 (-18.9)
- Subaru Impreza - 2,255 (-8.0%)
- Subaru Legacy -1,492 (+17.5)
- Subaru WRX -1,172 (-41.6%)
- Subaru Solterra - 379 (-24.1%)
- Subaru BRZ - 250 (-24.7%)
Only three models had positive figures at the start of the year.
The Forester, Outback, and Legacy were the only three models that were up in sales volume compared with January 2023. All other models dropped in January.
Subaru of America continued an 18-month streak of consecutive year-over-year increases, but not by much. The automaker stays on top thanks to the hot Forester compact SUV. The 2025 Subaru Forester arrives this spring. Stay tuned.
