Should shoppers have the 2023 Subaru Solterra, one of the new SUV electric models, on their shopping list this year? According to Consumer Reports (CR), the all-new Solterra is among the top 20 percent of new vehicles with the cleanest emissions on the market. As a result, it is now a Green Choice and recommended by the latest CR rankings (by subscription).
Consumer Reports says its new rating was developed in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) SmartWay program, which rates vehicles for greenhouse gas and smog-forming emissions levels.

CR filtered the Green Choice vehicles to list only the new models that earn a Consumer Report's recommendation, factoring in road-test performance, reliability, owner satisfaction, and safety.
Consumer Reports is still testing the Subaru Solterra but still recommends the all-new electric SUV as one of the best Green Cars you can buy this year.
The Subaru Solterra has received its safety score from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The IIHS gives the new Solterra the highest Top Safety Pick+ award.

The Solterra also gets the top marks in the new IIHS side impact crash test. In addition, new requirements for side crash protection, pedestrian crash prevention systems, and headlights were recently established. Again, the Solterra passed all with the top scores.
What is the price of the 2023 Solterra?
The 2023 Solterra has three trim levels, Premium, Limited, and Touring. Pricing for the Solterra Premium trim level starts at $46,220. The Limited trim carries a starting manufacturer's suggested retail price of $49,720. Finally, the top-of-the-line Touring trim is priced at $53,220.
Prices include destination and delivery fees ($1,225). Subaru says US retailers set the actual price and may charge more. Check out the Solterra model guide here.
Consumer Reports says the 2023 Subaru Solterra is now one of its recommended SUVs that produce the lowest harmful emissions. So the Solterra is a good Green Choice pick for electric SUV shoppers this year.
