Subaru of America (SOA) is not slowing down. SOA now has 21 straight months of yearly month-over-month growth, and there's more than that to be excited about. New models are coming this spring. Before I cover what's next for SOA, let's look at what happened in April.
It's All Rainbows And Lollipops
Subaru of America reported 55,863 vehicle sales for April 2024, a 9.5 percent increase compared with April 2023 (51,014). SOA also reported year-to-date sales of 208,859, a 7.4 percent increase compared with the same period in 2023.
Jeff Walters, President, and Chief Operating Officer, Subaru of America, Inc.: "April marked another consecutive month of strong sales bolstered by the efforts of our retailers. It was also a notable month when we were again recognized on the Forbes list of Best Brands for Social Impact, retaining our position as number two overall among over 3,000 rated brands and the top automotive brand." Check out my report here.

There's Two Main Highlights For April
The hot Subaru Forester compact SUV remains the top nameplate in SOA's all-wheel-drive lineup. The Forester is the hottest Subaru model, and it's not slowing down ahead of the next-gen 2025 models.
In April, the Forester remained the top seller, with 17,850 vehicles sold, an 85 percent increase compared to 9,651 models delivered in April 2023. Forester has 66,396 models sold in the first four months compared with 40,059 in 2023 and is up 65.8 percent for the year.
It's The Best-Ever Month For The Solterra EV
I've been saying how slow the Solterra sales have been, but the all-electric SUV jumped in April. 1,456 Solterra EVs were sold to customers in April, the best month ever, compared with 603 delivered in April 2023—a whopping 141.5% increase.
Subaru of America sold 2,603 Solterra EVs in the first four months of 2024, compared with 1,962 in 2023. The Solterra is up 32.7 percent through the first third of the year, likely due to Subaru offering special financing. Check out my report here.

Subaru's Two Other Top-Sellers
Subaru reports the Outback midsize SUV continued to have a strong showing, with 13,131 vehicle sales. Crosstrek sales followed closely, with 12,127 vehicles sold, a 17.6 percent increase over April 2023.
My takeaway from Subaru sales in April is that, from what I see, the big three—Forester, Crosstrek, and Outback—have been keeping SOA on an upward trend for 21 straight months.
For months, I've observed that the hot Forester is the most impressive model in the all-wheel-drive lineup. The 85% increase in April and the 65.8% increase for the year is by far the best performance of any SOA nameplate.

Among the best things about the Forester beyond its reliability, is the fact that it can fit anywhere, and go anywhere. It’s a safe car that gives you peace of mind. If you have to think too hard about your car, it’s the wrong one…

What I love about my Forester, 360 viewing, large windows, turning radius, heated seats. What I don't like...if you change tires, you need to change all 4 at the same time, breaks..work is always being done on breaks and bairings

At 6’5”, the Forester is the only car that I’ve ever owned where I actually fit!
I don’t have to duck to see out the windscreen, I don’t have to move my knees to indicate, and people sitting behind me don’t have to work at Cirque du Soleil to contort themselves into the back seat!
It’s a great car, somewhat underpowered but not massively so. I’m well past my dragging off at the lights days anyway!
It just works for me.
