Subaru’s Solterra EV Is The Most Discounted New Car You Can Buy Now

The 2024 Subaru Solterra is now the most discounted new car you can buy. What does it mean for EV customers, and is now the best time to buy Subaru's electric SUV?

Buy now or wait?

It's now making sense why the 2024 Subaru Solterra has been selling more rapidly in the U.S. in the last four months. As I reported earlier, the Solterra EV has been on a record sales pace since April. You can check out my report here.

An updated report from Consumer Reports (by subscription) reveals the 2024 Solterra EV is the most discounted new car you can buy now.

Consumer Reports says, "For this list, we focused on what people paid, and we didn't limit the selections to models that meet the stringent criteria to be recommended by CR. We identified ten models selling for below their sticker price, each for less than $50,000."

I've listed the ten top models selling below their sticker price.

  1. Subaru Solterra: 12% Off
  2. Mercedes-Benz EQB: 11% Off
  3. Alfa Romeo Stelvio: 10% Off
  4. Mercedes-Benz C-Class: 8% Off
  5. Volvo XC60: 8% Off
  6. Buick Enclave: 8% Off
  7. Mercedes-Benz GLC: 8% Off
  8. Ram 1500: 7% Off
  9. Mercedes-Benz GLA: 7% Off
  10. Toyota Crown: 6% Off

Surprisingly, the Solterra is the most discounted new car. This is mainly due to the manufacturer sales incentives and special financing rates, making it an attractive option for potential buyers. Most of the latest vehicles on the list are luxury models.

CR says, "Discounts this month are greatest on models from premium brands, but there are smart buys to be found across the price spectrum."

For the analysis, CR looked back at recent transaction data from TrueCar, a CR partner, to see where people found significant savings off the sticker price on 2024 models.

What does CR say about the 2024 Subaru Solterra?

  • Price Range:  $44,995 - $51,995
  • CR MPGE:  Overall 102 / City 111 / Hwy 93 MPGe
  • #5 of 16  Electric SUVs

2024 Subaru Solterra Premium AWD

  • MSRP: $44,995
  • Average savings off MSRP: $5,259
  • Average transaction price: $39,736

What happened in April?

The Subaru Solterra has experienced a significant surge in sales volume, which has continued into the summer months.

  • April - 1,456
  • May - 1,546
  • June - 1,236
  • July - 1,261

Something significant happened in April.

This was when the Solterra experienced a significant surge in sales volume, which has continued into the summer months. This surge can be attributed to the manufacturer sales incentives and special financing rates, making it an opportune time for potential buyers.

The 2024 Subaru Solterra stands out as the top performer in the percentage of sales increase, mainly due to the manufacturer sales incentives and special financing rates.

Here are Solterra's sales performance numbers for the year's first quarter before Subaru offered the sales incentives.

  • January - 379
  • February -322
  • March -446

Should you buy now?

If you are considering buying a Solterra EV, now could be the best time.

Customers can get the 2024 Solterra for 0% APR financing for 72 months. The offer is good now through September 3, 2024. You can lease a 2024 Solterra for $329 monthly for 36 months. $329 is due at signing, plus taxes and license.

CR says the 2024 Subaru Solterra Premium AWD is the most discounted trim level.

The Premium trim level is the base model and comes amply equipped. If you choose the Solterra Premium trim, here's what you get:

  • Subaru Symmetrical all-wheel drive
  • 8.3 inches of ground clearance
  • X-MODE and Hill Ascent/Descent Assist
  • StarDrive zero-emissions all-electric drivetrain
  • EyeSight driver assist technology
  • Automatic climate control
  • Blind-Spot monitoring

I would choose the Solterra Limited trim because it has more features active customers want. Check out my 2024 lineup here and each trim level's standard features.

Toyota ugly, instruments almost impossible to read, range of a Leaf, slow to charge. No thanks at any price.

We bought a Toyota RAV4 HYBRID in October, 2019. Other than the recall for the fuel tank issue (our fuel tank was replaced) this RAV4 HYBRID has been flawless. Where we live in rural NE CA a hybrid makes a lot of sense due to the lack of charging infrastructure. Besides battery technology is changing or will be changing which will make charging much simpler and quicker in the near future. We are waiting for Toyota to unveil what is coming next.
