Surprising New Data Reveals Which Subaru Models Will Sell For Under MSRP

New data shows which new Subaru models are the best value for new SUV shoppers. The Subaru Forester days supply and inventory levels are surprising.

Are you shopping for a new Subaru model? My report could save you money on your next purchase. For new Subaru customers looking to purchase a 2024 Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, or other model, I’ve found new data that will help you navigate which models will be the easiest to find this spring and summer.

I will reveal newly updated data from Ray Shefska of CarEdge, which provides helpful information for new Subaru shoppers about the new car inventory levels. I’ve found that Subaru of America retailers are seeing substantial improvements that should make many models more available and, more importantly, more negotiable this summer. 

First, here are important definitions that will help you understand and interpret the data:

Market Day supply: This is the number of days needed to sell all vehicles in inventory based on the previous month’s daily selling rate. Learn more about MDS here.

Inventory: This is the unit count of vehicles on hand at Subaru dealerships across the U.S., factory lots, ports of entry, and in transit. I’ve included the top five Subaru models. 

Subaru Inventory Levels

  • Subaru Forester has an 82-day supply, and there are 36,208 models in inventory.
  • Subaru Outback - 94-day supply, and there are 29,504 models in inventory
  • Subaru Crosstrek - 75-day supply, and there are 26,931 models in inventory
  • Subaru Ascent - 98-day supply, and there are 10,568 models in inventory
  • Subaru Impreza has an 86-day supply, and there are 5,952 models in inventory

Here is a new 2024 Subaru model pricing guide for customers. 

Since I’ve been covering the Subaru brand, there hasn’t been this kind of window of opportunity for shoppers for a significant amount of time. It’s been four years now that Subaru has had the lowest inventory of any automaker.  

Automotive News reports that Subaru of America had a 34-day supply of new Subaru vehicles (77,300) on April 1, 2024. That’s the total number of its vehicles on the ground and ready to sell to customers. 

The Subaru inventory has dropped slightly. On March 1, 2024, Subaru had a 38-day supply of new models. But it’s still a buyer's market and a good time for you to negotiate a price under the vehicle's MSRP. 

Forester and Outback Have The Largest Supply

For Subaru customers looking for the best value now, the 2024 Subaru Forester compact SUV is your best choice. Subaru has the most new Forester models to sell now. The 2024 Subaru Outback is next.
