Mercedes-Benz was the only automaker to take home two of Top Gear’s magazine awards for 2013. The all-new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series are the two cars from the German automaker to take home the awards. Luxury Car of the Year went to the S-Class and Lairy Car of the Year went to the SLS AMG Black Series. Mercedes is definitely on the move and an automaker to be watched.
Top Gear gives their definitive last word on the best cars of 2013 and these are the cars that they believe stand out from the crowd over the last 12 months in their respective categories. They tell us, “The Germans have had a great year, with Mercedes-Benz giving us the fire-breathing SLS AMG Black Series and a truly refined S-Class.”
Luxury Car of the Year: 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Mercedes has always been about luxury. Mercedes continues to be the most innovative automaker on the planet and the new S-Class is a prime example of why the Stuttgart automaker is going to be the number one luxury brand in the world. Mercedes calls the new 2014 S-Class the “best car in the world” and it’s hard to argue with them. The new S-Class has more luxury and high-tech innovations than any other car on the planet.
Top Gear says, "There is no other luxury car half as deserving of the tag. It is the pinnacle of technical achievement and technological advancement. Everything is configurable, adjustable or tweakable: the luxury of choice."
Lairy Car of the Year: 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series
Mercedes-Benz is also about high-performance. The new 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Black Series high-end supercar is the fifth Black Series model from Mercedes-AMG and is the most extreme version yet of what performance is about. Mercedes-AMG has built a truly intoxicating performance car in the new SLS AMG Coupe Black Series. AMG continues to put out the best supercars on the planet.
Top Gear says,"It looks like it wants to bite your leg off, but actually it bear hugs you and covers your back like a best mate. It is lairy but not scary."
What do these two awards from Top Gear tell us about the brand? Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG are putting out the finest luxury cars and also the best high-performance vehicles on the planet. For one automaker to be excellent in two categories says the German automaker is on a mission to be number one in the world.
Look for other vehicles like the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class and SLS AMG Black Series to get the attention of Top Gear and others. The all-new CLA-Class and soon-to-launch GLA-Class will likely see plenty of awards also. Mercedes-Benz is on the move and an automaker to be watched. Look for them to overtake BMW and Audi as the top luxury brand in the world before the end of the decade.
