When will customers in North America see the all-new next-generation Subaru Crosstrek? Subaru Corporation has already revealed the new Crosstrek, and the Japanese automaker just announced the new 2024 Crosstrek is available for pre-order in Japan. Subaru of America customers have yet to see the U.S.-spec model.
Subaru Japan announced yesterday, November 11; they would begin taking orders for the next-generation Crosstrek. Subaru Corporation says the new Crosstrek will make its dealer launch in Japan next year and then introduce the new subcompact SUV in the U.S. and other global markets later.
We thought Subaru of America would introduce the U.S.-spec 2024 Crosstrek at the Los Angeles Auto Show this month but chose to reveal the 2024 Impreza compact car instead. The new Impreza will make its global debut on November 17 in a live-stream event.
Why is Subaru slow in bringing the new Crosstrek to U.S. shores?
Subaru Corporation is still dealing with a 100,000 new vehicle global backlog and about 50,000 backorders for its U.S. customers. Subaru is fine selling the current generation Crosstrek model because the subcompact SUV is the number-one selling all-wheel-drive vehicle in Subaru of America's lineup. They can take their time with the new models.
It's likely Subaru decided to introduce the 2024 Impreza in LA now before the Crosstrek because sales of the Impreza are down substantially in the U.S. market. New car shoppers pick the Crosstrek SUV over the Impreza sedan and hatchback models. Subaru of America hopes the next-generation Impreza will get compact car shoppers excited again.
What can customers expect when the new Crosstrek finally arrives?
The U.S.-specification 2024 Subaru Crosstrek will get significant improvements over the outgoing model. The Crosstrek will receive the same upgrades as the Japan-spec model to the exterior, and interior, next-generation EyeSight with a wide-angle monocular camera, and the newly upgraded Global Platform with greater rigidity and improved driving dynamics.
Subaru of America will get a different version with different engines and drivetrains. Japanese customers get the new Crosstrek with a 2.0-liter engine and e-Boxer hybrid technology. North American customers will likely get the new Crosstrek with three engines, a 2.0-liter Boxer, a 2.5-liter engine, and a Plug-in Hybrid trim level.
The most significant change for U.S. customers is they will get an all-new 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness trim level. The Crosstrek Wilderness will be the third SUV with the rugged Wilderness branding joining the Outback and Forester. But the Wilderness trim level will arrive later than the standard model.
When will the 2024 Crosstrek finally arrive in the U.S.?
Subaru Corporation says they will launch the all-new 2024 Crosstrek in Japan sometime next year and then introduce the third-generation subcompact SUV in the U.S. and other global markets. Customers in the U.S. may have a long wait until 2024 to get their hands on the next-generation Crosstrek subcompact SUV.
