The rest of the globe may have the The 2017 Subaru Forester SUV in the showrooms, but its just arrived in Russia. Forester is a popular model in global markets and it’s in high demand in Russia. The small SUV is especially hot as the 2016 model won its second “SUV of the Year” award in the mid-size crossover category. Now the upgraded 2017 Forester arrives for Subaru Forester enthusiasts.
Russian-spec models get a different engine
It gets a few upgrades like the US-spec SUV, with new technology, interior upgrades and 7-inch color LCD screen, but it features 3 engines in Russia. It gets the 2.0-liter turbocharged model (XT in the US), the 2.5-liter boxer (2.5i), and a base model with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline boxer engine (not available in US Forester models). Russians can get a 6-speed manual shifter with the 2.0-liter N/A powerplant along with an optional CVT automatic transmission.
This base Russian Forester 2.0 model comes standard with permanent all-wheel drive, the 2-liter horizontally-opposed engine, 6-speed manual gearbox, 17-inch steel wheels, climate control, and 7 airbags. It also comes standard with heated wiper blades, heated rear-view mirrors, and heated front seats for the cold Russian winters.
The 2017 Subaru Forester should be a big hit in Russia again as it’s functional, practical, and provides comfort on long journeys regardless of driving style. The SUV also has the necessary equipment suitable for extreme off-roading and the cold winters. These are Forester’s attributes that have made it Subaru’s best seller not only in Russia, but also around the globe. Russians get a new base Forester model with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine making it a good entry-level model.
