Ford Explorer Hit My Tesla Cybertruck Head-On at Highway Speeds – Feeling Bored Writing This Update From the Hospital

John was recently involved in a head-on collision with a Ford Explorer that crossed over a double yellow line. However, John says that not only is everyone in the Cybertruck safe, but he is also feeling bored and doing nothing at the hospital.

A Tesla Cybertruck driver who was recently involved in a severe accident is thanking his truck for saving his life and protecting his family.

John, who goes by the user name johnm6875 on the Cybertruck Owners Club, shared the circumstances of his accident with the forum members.

After the harrowing accident, John's gratitude towards the Cybertruck’s engineering and manufacturing is palpable.

He writes, “A guy crossed over the double yellow, and I could not get out of the way fast enough. We were both at highway speeds. My wife, granddaughter, and I are all shaken and are being evaluated (at the emergency room, and I'm bored, hence the reason for the post). There were no critical injuries. The other guy was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. We were spun but not flipped. Thank you, Tesla, for your exceptional engineering and manufacturing.”

Finally, John adds, “This truck gave its life for us. I'll be getting another Cybertruck.” Below, John also shares a picture of his mangled Cybertruck following the accident.

If you follow the link to the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, where John posted a picture of his accident, you can see that his Cybertruck is completely mangled, especially the rear door on the driver's side, which is completely disintegrated.

Following the impact, the Cybertruck’s thick stainless steel body panels can be seen shriveled like paper, and the rear glass on the same side is virtually absent.

The Cybertruck driver-side rear wheel and tire are completely sheered off; the side view mirrors are nonexistent, and the thick, continuous piece of stainless steel that Tesla calls the sail is completely deformed.

Unsurprisingly, all the airbags inside the Cybertruck have also been deployed. Looking at the aftermath, the Cybertruck undoubtedly sustained a very high-speed impact.

However, despite the severity of the accident, John says everyone inside the Cybertruck, including his wife and granddaughter, is fine.

It was surprising to read that John was feeling bored as he shared his story from the hospital. By definition, no one enjoys being bored. However, if you sustain such a massive crash at highway speeds and nothing major happens to capture your attention completely, that means the vehicle has done an exceptional job.

In this particular accident, the Cybertruck’s battery pack appears to have played a big role in protecting the occupants.

Thanks to the heavy and structurally rigid battery pack arranged at the bottom of the Cybertruck in a skateboard fashion, the Ford Explorer, although it hit the Cybertruck at high speed, was stopped by the battery pack from breaching the Cybertruck’s passenger compartment.

This advantage is not exclusive to the Cybertruck; all-electric vehicles with a skateboard battery pack layout have very good side-impact protection.

Having said that, on the Cybertruck, this innate EV advantage is further amplified with the vehicle’s 4680 cells and structural battery pack.

Unlike in most other EVs, the Cybertruck’s battery pack is a structural component that serves as part of the vehicle chassis; all the individual cells adhere together with the battery pack cover to create a single sturdy structural piece.

This means in the event of a side impact, the battery pack will act as a deterrent stopping another vehicle from breaching the passenger compartment.

As for the other vehicle involved in the accident, John shares that the front part of the Ford Explorer that hit him was completely deformed. John writes, “His left front was completely flattened, all the way to the windshield.”

John also shared that the Ford Explorer driver was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, whereas he and his family only sustained minor injuries.

In an internal combustion vehicle, a huge chunk of metal in the engine does not deform during an accident but becomes displaced rearward, potentially breaching the passenger compartment.

Having said that, most modern internal combustion vehicles have a mechanism that allows the engine to drop down during an accident, protecting the passenger compartment.

We can’t say exactly what happened to the deformed Ford Explorer; however, we hope the driver quickly recovers.

Overall, this is yet another story that highlights the safety of electric vehicles, especially in car accidents. We hope more people shift to electric vehicles and more lives can be saved.

Currently, this is all the information we have. However, we’ll be sure to keep you posted with more Cybertruck stories. Until then, make sure to visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.

So, what do you think? Are you surprised to see the Cybertruck occupants did not sustain any injury despite being hit by a car at highway speeds?
