Tesla released the Model S Plaid back in June 2021. The vehicle when it first came out was the fastest-accelerating production car in the world.
Not only from 0 to 60 but, the Model S also embarrassed multi-million dollar hypercars in the quarter mile, finishing the distance in less than 9 seconds and at over 155 miles per hour.

When the Model S Plaid was released the vehicle redefined what it means to be a sports car. Gone are the days when performance vehicles came with 2 seats, and crammed interiors, without any creature comforts such as A/C and infotainment screens.
With the Model S Plaid, Tesla showed you can have your cake and eat it too. The Model S not only matched the creature comforts of luxury sedans but in some important areas including interior space and tech even surpassed the 5-door sedan competition.
Model S Plaid achieved this feat while at the same time embarrassing 2-door hypercars in a straight line.
This was all well and good, however, it’s been more than 2 and a half years since Tesla released the Model S Plaid and throughout that time some of the novelties of the vehicle have started to wane.
Not only that, but now several electric cars such as the Rimac Nevera and Lucid Air Saphire can outperform the Plaid in a straight line.
Add to this the Model S Plaid’s weight and subpar track performance and the vehicle is starting to be less alluring for the ultra-rich.

As an overall package and if you’re chasing value for money, we still believe the Model S Plaid is the best vehicle in the world but, the car after 2 and a half years is also starting to show its age.
This is at least the case for one early Model S Plaid owner and Tesla fan. Marques Brownlee, better known by his YouTube handle MKBHD, is one the first people to buy the Model S Plaid.
Over the past 2 years, MKBHD has made several videos covering every aspect of his Model S Plaid including tech, self-driving, and performance. Through his videos, MKBHD has brought Tesla a lot of fans and customers.
In return, Tesla products have brought MKBHD countless views including his latest Cybertruck review which has garnered more than 15 million views on YouTube.
However, this virtuous relationship appears to be, not going to end per se but, rather diming a bit as MHBHD, a few hours ago, revealed that he is selling his Model S Plaid on fellow YouTuber Doug Demero’s car auctioning site, Car & Bids.

The reason MKBHD is selling his Tesla Model S Plaid is because he has decided to replace his daily driver with a 992 generation Porsche 911 Turbo S.
So what made MKBHD choose the Porsche 911 over the Tesla Model S Plaid? MKBHD admits that the Porsche 911 isn’t as quick from 0 to 60 as the Model S Plaid, the Porsche also doesn’t have the same tech, practicality, and comfort.
However, the one thing the Porche has more than the Plaid is driving dynamics. MKBHD says this generation Porsche 911 is the best driving car that he has sat behind the steering wheel.
With Tesla delaying the 2nd generation Roadster for over 6 years, MKBHD has been forced to purchase an internal combustion vehicle as his daily driving sports car.
It doesn’t appear that Tesla plans to start producing the 2nd generation Roadster in 2024 which means for the time being anyone looking for a proper electric sports car has to look outside Tesla.
As of now MKBHD’s Tesla Model S Plaid with a matte black wrap, $20,000 performance brake and wheel upgrade, $15,000 FSD software, and 44,000 miles is live being auctioned on Cars & Bids and the highest bid as of writing is $80,000.
We’ll be sure to keep you posted on the auction and Tesla’s progress with the next-generation Roadster. Until then, make sure to visit our site torquenews.com/Tesla regularly for the latest updates.
So what do you think? Surprised to learn that MKBHD has decided to replace his Tesla Model S Plaid with a Porsche 911 Turbo S? Do you think this should motivate Tesla to accelerate the development of the 2nd generation Roadster? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

You can’t compare a Tesla to a Porsche. Tesla is just a cool tech car. Porsche is a drivers dream.
