Tesla Cybertruck Achieves a Record 405KW Peak Charging Speed (1,030 Miles/hr)

A Tesla Cybertruck using a 600KW fast charger has set a new record, achieving a peak charging rate of 405KW. This translates to recouping 1,030 miles/hr; however, the charging curve still needs improvements.

A Tesla Cybertruck imported to Europe has achieved a record charging rate of over 400KW. HuntinSpeed, a Slovakian news outlet, first reported this news, which Ondrej Bacina shared on X.

The charging session was conducted at Slovakia's new high-power 600KW charging station. As you all know, the Cybertruck, in its current form, is not available for sale in Europe; however, one imported to the content was brought to the charging station to garner more media attention.

HuntinSpeed shared several pictures of the charging session, the most impressive being a peak charging speed of 405.3KW. The Cybertruck reached this number at 7% state of charge.

The event organizers also shared a couple of more pictures, including one of a Tesla Cybertruck center touchscreen showing 403KW charging. The Cybertruck’s computer estimated that the truck was recuperating 1659 km/hr (1030 mi/hr) at this rate.

In other words, if the Cybertruck could maintain this high charging speed throughout the charging session, the all-electric truck would take less than 18 minutes to charge from 0 to 100 percent.

However, no battery can charge constantly throughout the charging session, which means the charging speed will inevitably start to taper off.

This is to be expected; however, in the Cybertruck’s case, although the peek 405KW charging speed is admirable, the truck could only maintain that rate for a few seconds.

Luckily, the Slovakian charging company also shared a picture of the charging curve. As we can see, the Cybertruck maintained the 405KW charging speed for only a few seconds.

Three minutes into the charging session, the Cybertruck’s charging speed was down to 300KW, and within six minutes, it had tapered down to 250KW.

In the third picture shared by the charging company, the Cybertruck is charging at 32KW at 99% state of charge.

Due to the less-than-ideal charging curve, although the Cybertruck was able to reach a peak charging speed of 1030 miles/hour, by the end, it took the all-electric truck 1 hour and 2 minutes to go from a 5 percent state of charge to 100.

Unsurprisingly, the peak 405KW charging speed has created a lot of excitement; unfortunately, the weak charging curve has tempered the expectations.

Having said that, there is still good news. Currently, Cybertrucks using Tesla’s Supercharger stations are capped at a peak 250KW charging rate. This makes the Cybertruck one of the slowest-charging electric trucks in the market.

However, as this current charging session shows, the Cybertruck’s charging limit appears to be dictated by Tesla’s Supercharger station rather than by the Cybertruck’s limits.

Tesla’s fast charging stations are limited to 250KW peak charging speed and operate at 400 volts. This was enough for a vehicle like the Model 3, which has a much smaller battery pack and is significantly more efficient overall.

However, with the Cybertruck, the 250KW supercharger takes nearly 2 hours to charge the truck from 10 to 100 percent.

This new peak 405KW charging speed shows that the Cybertruck can charge at high voltages, specifically 814 volts, and Tesla has already shown that the Cybertruck’s battery pack can accept 800 amps.

Together with these higher voltages and amperages, there is increasing evidence that the Cybertruck is designed to take a peak charging rate of 640KW.

This is exciting; however, there is still the issue of the charging curve. It’s questionable whether Tesla should build such a high-powered charging station if the Cybertruck can only maintain the 640KW speed for a few seconds.
