Tesla is Struggling to Find Buyers for the $79,990 Cybertruck, Finishes Entire US Reservation List in 9 Days

Several individuals, who reserved a Cybertruck as late as July 2024 were surprised to get an invitation from Tesla to take delivery of their $79,990 Cybertruck. Tesla has run through the entire 1 million Cybertruck reservation list in 9 days.

Tesla is struggling to convert Cybertruck reservations into orders. This problem started with the Foundation Series Cybertruck; however, the trend appears to be getting worse with the cheaper $79,990 Cybertruck.

After ten months and 20,000 plus Cybertrucks sold, on October 4th, Tesla finally started inviting the remaining 1 million Cybertruck reservation holders to take delivery of their non-Foundation Series Cybertrucks.

So, how is the demand so far? Sadly, it appears that Tesla is struggling to sell even the cheaper Cybertruck variant.

BayouCityBob is a Cybertruck Owners Club member from Texas, and he says, “The original US Cybertruck reservation list is exhausted.”

In support of his claim, BayouCityBob shares his own experience trying to buy a Cybertruck.

Here is what he wrote…

“I created a Cybertruck reservation in mid-July of this year (RN 12222XXXX). Just two weeks later (August 2nd), we were invited to configure a Foundation Series Cybertruck. Today, we received an invitation to configure a non-foundation series. I went to the configurator and built a dual-motor Cybertruck, which showed October-November delivery (presumably out of inventory). Same for CyberBeast. So I am calling it: original (US) reservation list is basically finished.”

Below his post, BayouCityBob shared three screenshots of communication he received from Tesla. The first picture shows his original Cybertruck reservation on July 17, 2024.

The second picture shows an email he received from Tesla inviting him to take delivery of his $79,990 Cybertruck.

Finally, the third picture shows his dual-motor Cybertruck configuration with a delivery date between October and November.

This is frankly surprising. Tesla only began selling the $79,990 Cybertruck on October 4. The EV maker started out by offering first day, November 2019, reservation holders to take delivery of their non-Foundation Series Cybertruck.

However, fast-forward nine days, and Tesla has run through the entire 2019 to July 2024 reservation list.

What’s even more surprising is that delivery is stated for October to November. This means the overwhelming majority of people who were given the chance to take delivery of their Cybertruck did not choose to convert their reservation to a binding order.

I don’t know about you, but I think this causes concern about Cybertruck demand going forward.

At this point, rightfully, you might be thinking BayouCityBob’s Cybertruck order process is just a single account, and he could be an outlier.

This is a fair point; however, if you are a Tesla fan, unfortunately, several people on various platforms have confirmed the same $79,990 Cybertruck demand problem.

Nathan James is a member of the Tesla Cybertruck group on Facebook and he also attests to the Cybertruck reservation list evaporating in just a few days.

Here is what Nathan wrote…

“I'm confused. Please advise. I reserved a Cybertruck in June 2022, which was estimated to be 750,000th in line, est. Delivery October, 2027. Last night, I received this invitation to configure. What gives? If I ignore it, do I lose my place in line? I'm not ready to buy right now.”

Still not convinced? Another Cybertruck reservation holder, MC1987, says he reserved a Cybertruck in June 2024 and that Tesla has already invited him to take delivery of the $79,990 Cybertruck.

MC1987’s account was reposted on Reddit, and here is what he wrote…

“I bought my Cyberbeast in the first week of June. I drove it for a couple of months and sold it due to some build quality issues. I made another reservation on the day of the delivery event. I just got an email to configure my non-Foundation Series Cybertruck. I thought I would have to wait a couple of years before my time came. This is so wild.”

There are many more examples; however, I think we have enough firsthand accounts to show that Tesla has gone through the entire Cybertruck reservation list in just a few days.

As I said, this is concerning for Cybertruck sales going forward. However, please let me know what you think in the comments. Share your ideas by clicking the red “Add new comment” button below. Also, visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.

I reserved the cybertruck dec 2019. I am taking a pass due to specs. Was supposed to be 500 mile range, 6 passengers.

Robotruck fleet problem solved:

Start by existing Tesla owners buy, or lease them for super cheap.

I am passing on purchase due to Elon going full MAGA. My moral compass will not allow me to hand him dollars. And I really really really want one.

Remeber the fields of cyber trucks the media has been reporting on that were filled ,surprise they are already built and are now shipping all of them ,this isnt bk where it's made fresh the second you buy one ffs

Anyone foolish enough to purchase one of these so-called trucks, deserve any problems that come.
While some have positive experiences with their Tesla vehicles, too many are experiencing problems that shouldn't be happening & should of been addressed before more garbage comes down the line.

Adam (not verified)    October 14, 2024 - 9:39AM

Clearly they've fulfilled all orders. The die hard fans who both want one and can afford one, reserved. I can't imagine many other people who actually wanted one not doing this.

Since release, a ton of build issues, bad reviews, and the fact that it performs pretty bad as an actual utility truck, have shown those who were waiting to see what the facts are. And the facts are: better alternatives exist.

This time, Tesla really expected high demand, overproduced, and are now left with an overstock.

Not selling? Maybe because
- They are ugly
- Impractical
- Much too big
- NO tradesman would ever show up to work in one
- Too big to park
Elon messed up big time with his first dog.

Sfyri (not verified)    October 14, 2024 - 11:21AM

How could they have exhausted the reservation list ? I haven't heard from Tesla in over two years.

Mark De (not verified)    October 14, 2024 - 11:35AM

The Tesla cyber truck is ugly.
I can not imagine hauling a load of gravel or grain to market in it.
Are there charging stations in the corn fields of the Midwest?
Can it compete against real trucks like Ford, Chevy Ram, Toyota etc.
Maybe in another 10 years?

Is this shocking? The vehicle is a monstrosity for a number of reasons. I like pushing the envelope. But this thing was nonsense. The Delorian at least has a cool story and lives on in a classic movie trilogy. This will ultimately be lost to obscurity.

Andrew (not verified)    October 14, 2024 - 2:01PM

No surprises really. Low demand. 79990 is automatically a six figure sum in conversion to AUD - and then there's all types of taxes, depreciation, insurance headaches and nightmare of owning an EV including infrastructure, charging network, safety issues, build quality etc. There's no way I have that kind of funding in my wildest imagination.

EeeMang (not verified)    October 14, 2024 - 7:04PM

It is a huge, ugly mistake resembling a construction site dumpster in shape and so many people realize it is so and want no part of it.

Eric Feu (not verified)    October 15, 2024 - 12:34AM

Great article. I had the same experience but you don't mention the $20 000 price increase. I am in no rush to spend over $80 000 now. I made other arrangements since the delivery was past 2025.

Bob Newhart (not verified)    October 15, 2024 - 1:46AM

This is not accurate news since tesla has already said that the first year is only foundation edition and they have filled that for the year already and now filling orders for normal ones starting in 2025. Also to say that 1 million pre-orders at 250 bucks each. And now no one wants it and losses their money... sounds fishy. Also the media said the same about model 3 and model y... which model y is the best selling car for what 3 years now... i will believe this when tesla stop production of the cybertruck...

Mitch (not verified)    October 15, 2024 - 2:27AM

Have had the foundation series order request from Tesla soon after it came out. I'm waiting for the very base model version that was promised in 2019. With my reservation I made it should be available in end of 2025. It looks as if Tesla is not following the reservation list at all and is just offering everyone the same opportunity like everyone else that didn't have a reservation to buy whichever model of the cybertruck becomes available.

Randy Crump (not verified)    October 15, 2024 - 6:42AM

Who in their right mind would spend far more money on a vehicle that has far less range, over two tons of dead weight heavier, and takes hours to refill. No one would.

D (not verified)    October 15, 2024 - 3:58PM

Your article is missing a few other factors worth considering which is that many who reserved back in 2019 were expecting an EV pickup at $39,900 which is now at $79,900 making it unaffordable despite the single motor option not remotely available anymore and that Elon’s political stands has potentially turned many people off from supporting a product they can’t get behind despite the advance in technology. I recently canceled my reservation which I placed back in 2019 due to these factors.

Shaun (not verified)    October 16, 2024 - 11:26AM

This can't be true. Tesla thought they would only sell 10,000 Foundation trucks but demand was so high they kept it going months longer than anticipated and sold almost 3x that amount. Now that they have moved on to a version that only costs $72.5K after the rebate, you expect us to believe the demand has suddenly shriveled up? No chance. I made a reservation in 2021 for dual motor and Tesla offered me to configure my Cybertruck a couple months ago but they are still only offering the Foundation versions that would be available in Oct/Nov.

ken kuzenski (not verified)    October 17, 2024 - 10:29AM

I can't believe some people are still paying attention to the plastic faced racist charlatan selling the stainless steel garbage cans. Eight years late, will never have full self-driving, cost a thousand times more than you expected
, will never be in your driveway cuz it'll be at the shop constantly.. I bet musk's next product will be magic freaking beans, for the few idiots who still listen to him.
