The Best Vehicle in the World is a Pickup Truck Not a Tesla

Here is what one popular mechanic says is the best vehicle ever made in the world...and it is not a Tesla Cybertruck! Plus, watch how much abuse this truck can take in a fun video.

At the risk of sounding like just another hyperbolic claim of the “Best of Anything in the World”, a popular mechanic went out on a limb putting his reputation at stake and revealed what he professes is truly the best vehicle in the world.

Sorry, Tesla but to paraphrase a reputed British complaint against the American soldiers stationed overseas during WWII, you are, “…over-dressed, over-paid, over-sexed…and over here.”

The Arguably Best from Toyota

More specifically, the qualifying “All-Around Best” in the automotive world is a 1990’s Toyota pickup a.k.a. the Hilux (with some market-specific changes and versions) in other countries.

Built as a versatile workhorse, the 1990’s era Toyota trucks were celebrated for their reliability, durability, and practicality, making them a popular choice of buyers with needs ranging from daily commuting to off-road adventuring.

The Toyota trucks from the 1990s were well-regarded for several reasons:

  1. Reliability and Durability: Toyota trucks from the 1990’s are known for their exceptional reliability and long-lasting performance. Reports of 300,00 to 500,000-mile Toyota trucks from this era are not uncommon.
  2. Build Quality: A sturdy frame and durable parts made them ideal for both everyday use (and abuse) including off-roading and hauling ponderous loads in the back.
  3. Off-Road Capability: Having earned a reputation for being tough and more than capable on rough terrains.
  4. Engine Options: A balance of power and fuel efficiency using the 22R and 22RE engines from Toyota, these trucks were famous for their reliability and ease of maintenance without the need for a fully equipped service center or excessively stocked toolbox.
  5. As Versatile as Possible: Toyota trucks from this era were available in various configurations, including different bed lengths, cab styles (regular cab, extended cab), and drivetrain options (2WD and 4WD). This versatility allowed buyers to choose a model that best suited their needs.
  6. Resale Value: Due to their reputation for reliability and durability, Toyota trucks from the 1990’s often retained their value well; This made them a good investment for buyers when new as can be attested to the number of used models available in many countries to this day.

Not Just Ford Tough, There's Toyota Tough Too

As a demonstration of just how tough the Toyota trucks from the '90 were, here is a fun to watch video where one is put to some creative on and off-road tests.
