The Corporate Burden
For anyone who has ever worked in Corporate America, Happy Hour war stories of “How your day went” shares a typical theme of being overworked, being underpaid, being underappreciated; and, being under the thumb of an incompetent or hard-nosed manager who’s idea of motivating workers is saying, “Don’t work smarter---work harder.”
Furthermore, after listening to these sorry souls, you begin to realize that simply switching from one company to another in America is no solution because of the homogeneity of how large businesses are run on a day-to-day basis: endless meetings, hundreds of e-mail messages, and repetitive overuse of business-speak lingo such as “Innovation,” “Employee development and empowerment,” “Intellectual diversity,” and now of course everything is “AI-this” and “AI-that” as if choosing the latest catchword phrase makes things happen.
But does it really have to be this way?
Musk Rules
A recent YouTube video titled “Elon Musk's Crazy Rules He Forces His Employees To Follow!” may hint that Tesla may do much more than create a fine electric car that one day will attain Level 5 FSD capabilities---it may change how we work.
In fact, if truly proven successful, not only will automakers continue to change their ways of creating cars as we are beginning to observe today due to Tesla’s influence, but the rest of Corporate America just might learn something as well about how to run a successful business in today’s Work World, which is markedly different than that of our fathers’ and grandfathers’ generation.
Where the pandemic has taught us that we don’t always need to be in an office or cubicle in order to get a job done because remote working has proven to be effective—how many of us know someone who has spent the last year working from an exotic location, from an RV, from their spare bedroom-turned-office? Crazy---right?! And, the way Tesla does business could become no less revolutionary.
That said, here is the titled video that allows those outside of Tesla to have some idea of what it is like to work there, that differs markedly from most corporate jobs based on specific rules Musk employees are encouraged to follow---the last of which, breaking one in particular will get an employee fired at Tesla.
