Really Cool Stuff Coming Next Month
Elon Musk just said that "really cool stuff" is coming next month, as someone on X asked about updates on Tesla's FSD vision system. Certainly, updates could be coming here, but there could be updates elsewhere. Let's unpack what these updates could be.
Possible Updates:
- Updates To FSD Functionality - Nothing But Neural Nets: Numerous videos are circulating of Tesla's FSD software version 12 showing improvements - but still areas to improve. There could be improvements in an update.
- Grok Open Source With xAI: Elon Musk has said that Grok will become open source through xAI. This could finally allow Tesla owners to write software to customize an intelligent and talking car.
- Auto Wipers Just Work: Tesla's auto wiper functionality still isn't quite where it needs to be with the wipers sometimes going when they shouldn't, or not going enough in heavy rain. Updates could be coming.
- Actual Park Assist and Actual Smart Summon: These promised features are not available to many with vision only Tesla vehicles. It's possible that Tesla may actually deliver these features.
- Cybertruck With Autopilot and FSD: Currently, the Tesla Cybertruck does not have Autopilot or FSD. That could change.
- Wide Release of FSD Version 12: It's possible that Tesla could finally release FSD version 12 to everyone - or announce a date that it will.

Updates To FSD Functionality
Tesla's FSD version 12 uses only neural nets now, making it entirely machine learning driven. Over 300K lines of C++ code were removed to make this happen.
It's possible we'll see some of the issues addressed with the current version 12. In some cases, it still does not do the right thing - though it seems to be driving very well and much more smooth.
One instance where it may improve is cases where it hesitates or tries to make maneuvers in the wrong lane. More training data may help correct these problems and make it less like a teenage driver.

Grok Open Source With xAI
Elon Musk has said that Grok will become open source with xAI. This may finally allow those who want to write software for their Tesla to create an intelligent car a possibility.
There may be other uses for Grok being open source. It may allow developers to improve on its functionality in general, which would also benefit developers writing software with it for Tesla cars or elsewhere.
Auto Wipers Just Work
Currently, Tesla's auto wiper feature does not work correctly every time. Sometimes the wipers are too aggressive, sometimes not aggressive enough, and sometimes they don't come on at all.
Updates to this feature would make a lot of Tesla owners happy - if the wipers end up working and doing what they should every time.

Actual Park Assist and Actual Smart Summon
Tesla has advertised features for actual (automatic) park assist and actual (automatic) smart summon. These features say that your Tesla vehicle will park itself and that you can summon it from a parking lot to come to you.
However, these features haven't been available, except to a limited audience, and that could finally change with an update.
Cybertruck With Autopilot and FSD
The Cybertruck, the most American made truck on the market today, is one cool truck. However, there is one thing that is missing and that is Autopilot and FSD.
I get it - the Cybertruck has a much different form factor than other Tesla vehicles, so calibrating it and getting the software right is important. However, Tesla has had years to do this, so I am not sure what the hold up is now.
There will be a celebration if the Cybertruck finally gets Autopilot and FSD.
Wide Release of FSD Version 12
The biggest surprise of them all would be if Tesla's FSD version 12 finally makes it to a wide release and to everyone.
This would allow much more testing using the latest nothing but neural nets software and would accelerate progress - because more Tesla vehicles on the road would be running it and gathering data.
