"Optimus Folds a Shirt" - Tesla Humanoid Robot Seen Folding Shirt In Factory Demonstration - Does This Mean We'll Get Robot Housekeepers?

The Tesla humanoid robot, Optimus, was seen folding a shirt recently in a factory as revealed by Elon Musk. Does this mean we are going to get robot housekeepers?

Tesla Humanoid Robot Folding Clothes

Elon Musk revealed a video of the Tesla humanoid robot just now, showing it folding clothes. He simply said: "Optimus folds a shirt".

The Tesla humanoid robot has been a focus more for Tesla recently, as it has the potential to be Tesla's biggest and most important project.

If Tesla, with its energy and auto businesses, can get bigger than Apple and Aramco combined, then the Tesla Bot by itself can get bigger than all of that by itself.

After all, Elon Musk has questioned what the limit to human labor is - and it's a good question. If there is an abundance of labor, let's say, billions of robots, then what does that mean for humanity?

It's an incredibly important question - if all the dangerous and mundane work is being done, what will people do that once did those jobs? I think it means more of a "Star Trek" way of life where humans can focus on creative pursuits and self improvement.

The robot took the shirt on the rectangular shaped table and slowly folded it into a square. The whole sequence took about 30 seconds.

Elon Musk said afterward:

Important note: Optimus cannot yet do this autonomously, but certainly will be able to do this fully autonomously and in an arbitrary environment (won’t require a fixed table with box that has only one shirt)

As such, it appears that this was simply a demonstration that was done to show that it was possible. It's important to note that the robot had a wire hookup to its back during the demonstration, probably because it needed continuous power for hours upon hours of training and work, and draining a battery for that doesn't make sense yet.

Future of Optimus, the Tesla Humanoid Robot

Eventually, Optimus will learn to fold shirts autonomously, just like Tesla's cars are now learning to drive with "nothing but neural nets" in FSD version 12.

I, for one, look forward to the chance to have a robot housekeeper. Cleaning and laundry has never been something I've enjoyed, and if a robot can do it for me in perpetuity, sign me up!

However, I think we are at least 5 years away from having robot housekeepers, but if Tesla proves me wrong in this, I won't complain. I just don't see the robot making that kind of progress that fast - though its progress is still impressive.

An employee from Tesla confirmed that the Tesla humanoid robot will assist Tesla in its factories.

There was also a video released last month of Optimus doing squats and showing its tactile sensors on its hands, which allows it to sense pressure, allowing it to pick up and put down eggs without breaking them.

Businesses are going to need to employ the Tesla humanoid robot to stay competitive in the future, and one could argue that Tesla could open up pre-orders now for the humanoid robot for businesses that want to be first in line.

The Optimus humanoid robot was also involved in a CGI skit, doing bulletproof testing on the Cybertruck. This is something Elon Musk believes Tesla could do this year, and I look forward to Tesla doing that.

Lastly, it may very well be how Tesla gets to building 20 million cars per year by training its humanoid robot on the compact and sub-compact cars.

This is an exciting time in AI and technological growth in the world, and Tesla seems to be at the forefront and the leader in real-world AI.

You fell for that? It’s already been proven the motion being made were by a human in a remote ‘puppet’ rig. Even musk admitted it wasn’t “autonomous”.
