Tesla - In A State of Peak FUD
FUD (Fear Uncertainty Doubt) is a term utilized when an emotional state is trying to be induced over something to make people afraid, worried, and doubting it. Tesla is no stranger to this and seems to be a magnet for it.
One example of this "FUD" is using the word "recall" in any headline involving Tesla as a company. In the past, a recall meant that a number of cars needed to be taken to service centers for actual repair - hands on fixes for something such as a dangerous deployment of an airbag, brake failure, or any number of things. A recall meant to take the vehicle back to a place of service to fix it.
The definition of recall is: "Officially order someone or something to return to a place."
Now, I know that me harping over the term recall for Tesla doing over-the-air updates isn't going to change anyone's behavior. That is outside the realm of what I can control, even though the term is outdated and incorrect, I know why it's used. It's used because it SELLS. It created FUD against Tesla and its controversial CEO, Elon Musk.

One of Tesla's latest recalls was increases the font-size on its center console so that things are easier to read. This can be blown out of proportion and called a recall, and numerous news sites have done so. Why? Because it will generate more views and eyeballs.
I think it should instead be called: "over-the-air update." Now, if Tesla vehicles need to be physically fixed for something, then by all means call it a recall.
Ok, I think I've beat that horse to death enough. Recalls aren't the only thing that is being used to generate massive FUD against Tesla. There's much more.

More FUD Against Tesla
There are constant reports in the media about slowing EV demand and how EVs don't perform as well in the winter. For once, there is some truth to these claims - as EV batteries generally don't perform as well in the cold as a gas car would. That's a legitimate claim. However, this will eventually be a non-issue as batteries and EVs are an exponential technology, continuing to benefit from technological evolution.
Eventually, batteries will be so good that they will outperform gas cars in the cold. I know that many have concerns over EV range and what is called "range anxiety." I have an EV without home charging and I do just fine.
In fact, I haven't had to pay to charge in about 15 months now. Right now, my Tesla is sitting at a FREE ChargePoint charging station, charging at 30 miles per hour. I'll go get it in about 6 hours and then go to a Yoga class.
Even if I had to pay for charging, I'd simply go to a Tesla Supercharger early in the morning or late at night and fill my car up - it wouldn't be a problem and the cost would be much less than gas.
If you have home charging, FUD about range anxiety and range in the cold are overblown - even if you take a road trip, there are Tesla Superchargers scattered all throughout the U.S.

There is FUD about slowing EV demand. Yes, this is true - for other companies besides Tesla. I'm not surprised there is FUD over EV and slowing demand. Why? Because legacy auto companies and gas cars would die if EVs became 100% of the cars being purchased. I don't think anyone wants to go out of business or lose money, so there has to be push back and a fight to keep gas cars and hybrids alive.
There is FUD against Elon Musk, Tesla's often controversial CEO. Why? Because he says whatever he wants. In some sense, he can do this because he has "earned" enough money that nobody can tell him what to do.
Do I agree with everything Elon says? I do not - but I do agree with a lot of it. Tesla would simply not be where it is without Elon Musk and his boldness in taking Tesla from where it was at the beginning to where it is today. Tesla is at an over 2 million per year run rate for EVs. That's impressive from just a handful of original Tesla Roadsters that were first produced.
There is FUD against Tesla's batteries, it's semi, it's FSD still not being ready and a lot more.
I've realized this - the FUD is not going to end - ever. Even if Tesla were producing 20 million vehicles a year and had 100 million robotaxi vehicles on the road at level 5 autonomy. One FSD accident will generate FUD like you've never seen before.
Even at a 10 trillion company that is changing the world. There will still be headlines with "recall", "accident", "autopilot engaged", and more against Tesla because Tesla is the leader in auto companies.
It's like Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player of all-time. Wherever he went, he was heckled and fought against, but he battled through all of it and won six championships.
Elon Musk and Tesla are no different. They will continually be assaulted with FUD against "fires", which are very unlikely in an EV, Autopilot crashes, controversy with Elon Musk, and whatever else media outlets can conjure up.
This helps me know that Tesla is on the right track - because there is so much opposition against them. They must be doing something right. All of this means opportunity - a suppressed stock price that most people don't want. For those that can stomach this FUD, there is a great possibility of reward down the road.

Do you think the FUD against Tesla is real and valid? Is all this happening because Tesla is the leader in EVs?
