Cybertruck - Small Frunk
In an interesting development regarding the Tesla Cybertruck, a video can be seen that shows it having a much smaller frunk.
The frunk is the compartment in an EV that opens up in the front where an engine typically would be in a gas car. Why has Tesla made the Cybertruck with a small frunk?
I think the primary reason for this is that Tesla is trying to have most of the space in the back and the bed of the truck. That's the purpose of a truck - to store things in the back and to tow things with a lot of room to sit and for your things.
Tesla is also trying not to make the Cybertruck too long. Vehicles that are too long are hard to maneuver or fit in garages or parking spaces, and every inch counts in this case.
You might look at the frunk and say at least the Cybertruck still has a compartment at the front that you can open and put things in - but the reality is that it is smaller than my Model 3 RWD frunk.
It's Not About the Frunk
The reality of the Cybertruck is that it is not about the frunk at all. In fact, Tesla could probably make the Cybertruck with no frunk at all, and it would still be a bestseller.
The Cybertruck is about something new and unique - with a lot of space - that doesn't conform to the typical look of a pickup truck. I have one on order, and I am looking forward to what the final specs of it are.
The Cybertruck is also about being a post apocalyptic vehicle with bulletproof steel and the option to put a camper on it or solar panels so that one could live off the grid if desired.
Lastly, I don't see this stopping sales of the Cybertruck. I think people will be surprised at how small the frunk is, but when they use the truck for its intended purpose, they will quickly forget about it and not care.
