Tesla's new Model 2 battery - will go in the Model 2 and will use game changing technology from CATL. EV share in the U.S. is going to skyrocket to upwards of 30% to 40% from 15% in the U.S.
This has been predicted by Tony Seba - improving batteries at lower cost. Tesla is going to work with CATL and CATL has already sent the battery equipment to the U.S. to Tesla.
LFP batteries will be manufactured for the Model 2 - but these particular LFP batteries are game changing, causing EVs to become flat our more compelling than gas cars, even in cold weather. They will offer fast charging, a lower cost, and a respectable range for the Tesla Model 2.
Summary and Key Points:
- How fast will the Tesla Model 2 charge with the new CATL LFP battery?
- How much range will the new CATL battery have for the Tesla Model 2?
- How much will Tesla sell the Model 2 with CATL's new LFP battery for?

How fast will the Tesla Model 2 charge with the new CATL LFP battery?
In Europe, CATL's LFP battery was awarded the AUTOBEST 2024 TECHNOBEST award, which recognizes disruptive innovation on December 15, 2023. And, CATL is the biggest battery company in the world. Right now, EV penetration is around 10% to 15% in the world.
No other company in the world can manufacture these batteries themselves like Tesla can. At Giga Nevada, these new LFP battery cells will be manufactured for the Model 2. CATL's new M3P battery may go in the new Model Y, Juniper.
These LFP batteries can charge nearly full in just 15 minutes. CATL has already demonstrated this technology.
LFP batteries generally don't work as well in the cold and aren't as efficient. Supposedly, these new batteries will work better in the cold and could charge up to 550 kW speeds when it's colder and below 0. That is mind-blowing.
However, the new Model 2 will most likely have up to 350 kW charging speeds and should have battery packs that last a very long time. The new LFP battery packs have a 10% to 15% increased energy density, which should translate to either higher range and more performance, or less battery in the car for less cost. Tesla will most likely go the reduced cost route.

How much range will the new CATL battery have for the Tesla Model 2?
The only company that will use these batteries from CATL seems to be Tesla.
The future of Tesla's batteries seems to be 4680 batteries, CATL's M3P batteries, and these new LFP batteries. The M3P battery is supposedly being mass-produced this year in 2024, with Tesla being the major purchaser.
For the Model 2, Tesla will be using the new LFP battery pack - the world's first LFP battery to support 4C charging - ultra-fast charging - in 15 minutes. Imagine getting 250 miles of charge in 15 minutes - that's a game changer.
It's quite possible that Tesla will put just enough batteries in the new Model 2 to get it 250 miles of range and charge from 0% to 100% in about 15 minutes.

How much will Tesla sell the Model 2 with CATL's new LFP battery for?
If you are competing with Tesla and seeing that Tesla is installing CATL's battery equipment in the U.S. and that it will have a 250 kW battery that will charge in 15 minutes, and sell for $25,000 or less, what do you do?
Tesla's biggest advantage is manufacturing, and they will be making their own batteries in the U.S., as well as the Model 2. Tesla can definitely hit a 10 million vehicle per year run rate with this car and its new game changing battery.
Range anxiety and worries about charging speed are going to disappear in a few years.
