Tesla has just started production at its German Gigafactory in Berlin: this is great news since it will represent a notable advance in terms of production figures and a huge step forward for the Austin electric car company. However, Tesla is apparently thinking about how to increase its presence in Germany and it is already planning ahead in order to carry out the expansion.
Tesla is currently in full expansion of production figures, even more so if we take into account that it has recently inaugurated two new plants (Giga Texas and Giga Berlin) that will represent a significant boost in production. As for the Austin and Berlin plant, each one of them could have a production of around 500,000 cars per year; this will mean more than 1.5 million electric vehicles manufactured per year. With these figures, many would say that Tesla already has more than enough; however, this is not the case because a few days ago we learned of the confirmation of the purchase of a new piece of land next to the Shanghai factory in China; now again we learn about a similar rumor but this time it is located next to its Berlin plant.
This way, Tesla is already thinking about increasing its full potential for the coming years, thus ensuring itself in first place as a world producer of high-quality electric cars, an award that many other companies are struggling to keep up with, such as Ford or Volkswagen. For this reason, and according to what rbb24.de and Electrive media have learned, the Austin company would be interested in acquiring land next to its current plant in Berlin - Grunheide.
BREAKING: According to RBB, @Tesla plans to massively expand its property around Giga Berlin. Tesla reportedly wants to buy approx. 100 hectares (247 acres) of land located directly east of the Tesla site. Construction could roll as early as next year. pic.twitter.com/Emc0OFOQY7— Sawyer Merritt (@SawyerMerritt) May 5, 2022
This new piece of land has a generous total area of 247 acres (100 hectares), although this could be dwarfed if we compare it with the one already acquired and where the factory itself is located, whose land comprises 741 acres (300 hectares). The new environment would have enough space to house a whole new Gigafactory; however, on the land currently used by the company, there would still be unused land and even more than one extra Giga Factory could still be placed. So why the interest in this new terrain?
The aforementioned German publications speak of an interest on the part of Tesla since it is a piece of land that is located between the RE1 railway line (which the company uses on a daily basis), as well as the secondary roads L23 and L38, roads that are heavily traveled by employees and providers. That is why it is most likely that this will be finally used for establishing its own warehouses, third-party manufacturers or external suppliers. As of today there is no official statement of any kind, but rumors are being increasingly heard among regional authorities.
This land is currently owned by the State of Brandenburg and is fully suitable for sale to any interested company. From rbb24.de they estimate that its sale price would be valued at around 13 million euros (around 13,700,000 US dollars), if we take into account the same price per acre that Tesla paid for its already acquired land. However, this price should not be at all for Tesla since it is a brand that is currently in full expansion worldwide and for sure they would know how to get additional benefits from it.
