Try 400,000 Pounds (about $596,000). That was winning bid for 'Defender 2,000,000' at a charity auction this week.
As the name suggests, this is the 2,000,000 millionth Defender to roll out at Land Rover's Solihull plant since 1948. Built back in May, this Defender was built by a number of Land Rover brand ambassadors and people from the company’s history including adventurer Bear Grylls, actress and conservationist Virginia McKenna, and the sons of the company's founders. Land Rover also brought in the original project engineer, Arthur Goddard to sign off on the vehicle.
Defender 2,000,000 comes equipped with a number special touches such as an aluminium plaque signed by everyone who helped assemble it, unique no. 2,000,000 logos and badging, special license plates, and an engraved map of Red Wharf Bay, where the design of the original Land Rover was first drawn.
Proceeds of the sale will go to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the Born Free Foundation.
When is Land Rover planning to end production of the Defender>
Land Rover will end production of the Defender in January. But the British automaker is working on a replacement that will come out in 2018. We know that next Defender will not look anything like the DC concepts that were shown a few years back. It is expected that we'll see a concept of the next Defender sometime next year.
