We've already talked about the hottest GT, the 2018 AMG GT-R that will be arriving next year. But there are couple of other models coming.
Such as?
Well the first is a new base model AMG GT. This variant will feature the same twin-turbo, 4.0L V8 found in the AMG GT S. Although for the AMG GT, power will be down slightly to 456 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque - compared to 503 and 479 for the AMG GT S. Despite the drop in power, the standard GT is properly quick. Mercedes quotes a 0-to-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds (0.2 seconds slower than the GT S) and a top speed of 189 mph (about 4 mph slower).
The AMG GT loses out a number of features found on the GT S such as nappa leather, Burmester audio system, adaptive suspension, and AMG's adaptive exhaust. At least some of these features are destined to be on the option list. At least such features as a proximity key, backup camera, and limited-slip differential are standard.
The AMG GT will start around $112,125 when it arrives this summer.
The other model is a soft-top variant. Tobias Moers, chairman of the Mercedes-AMG division tells Auto Express that next year will see the launch of an AMG GT convertible.
“The convertible has moved well beyond the drawing board. It will be the next AMG GT model to arrive,” said Moers.
Moers said that the convertible would still be a sharp driver's car, despite the loss in rigidity with the removal of the roof. Sources tell Auto Express that the convertible would use a cloth top to keep weight down and remove a fair amount of complexity.
