Then we have the other extreme; the G500 4x4². This absurd model comes with a number of improvements such as portal axles, three locking differentials, and improved ground clearance to make it the most capable G-Class.
Back in April, we reported that Mercedes-Benz was considering selling G500 4x4² in the U.S. Bart Herring, Mercedes' general manager of product planning in the U.S. said at the time the automaker is "very close to a good decision" on U.S. sales. That decision has been made and the 4x4² is coming.
The only change that the U.S. version will see the new 4.0L biturbo V8 from the G550. This engine produces 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. This is paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
Mercedes-Benz hasn't announced pricing for the G550 4x4², but we're guessing it will be between the AMG G63 ($139,900) and G65 ($217,900). You'll be able to pick one up early next year.
