The latest award for the 2020 Ram 1500 really puts the vehicle in a class all its own. Autotrader picks the 2020 Ram 1500 for having one of the 10 Best Car Interiors. This is the third time the Ram has made the list in three years. Autotrader specifically rates vehicles under $50,000 for the 2020 list. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator also made the list for the first time. They are the only pickups on the rundown.
Editors rate interiors on comfort, quality of materials and logic of use to help consumers find the top vehicle choices that recognize the importance of quality interior design.
The Ram Team Focused on Improving the Interiors
In 2018, I interviewed Ryan Nagode, the head of interior design for the Ram 1500 line. Nagode has a BFA in Industrial Design from the Cleveland Institute of Art. He told me then that many people were calling the 2019 Ram 1500 a “Ritz-Carlton on Wheels”, because of all the upgrades they had made on the interior. Nagode describes the Ram 1500 Longhorn as a “brutiful” truck, both luxurious and powerful with the 5.7L Hemi V-8.
I asked Nagode what reflects his leadership in the interior design, and he pointed out the antique-looking wood finishes and the higher grades of leather used in the seats. He said that he wants owners to get the feeling that the truck was built especially for them. Nagode stressed that the 2019 Ram Longhorn has the highest percentage of leather of any pickup on the market. Nagode says the designers know that trucks receive a lot of wear and tear and he says these trucks are designed to take it and look even better with age.
The Ram 1500 made Autotrader’s list for Best Interiors in 2018, 2019 and now 2020. Autotrader’s editors claimed that Ram Truck now offers the nicest interiors in the half-ton pickup truck segment.
Autotrader Praises Ram’s Luxurious Interior
Brian Moody, Executive Editor of Autotrader, says “For the third year in a row, the Ram 1500 is on our ‘Best Interiors’ list. The reason is simple, Ram has consistently gone the extra mile in setting their truck apart from the crowd with compelling textures, interesting patterns and rich, contemporary colors. Of all the full-size pickups available, the Ram 1500 has the best looking, highest quality interior,” said Moody. “Anyone who spends most of their day driving a pickup will appreciate the Ram’s soft-touch materials, thoughtful features and sturdy storage options. Eclipsing even some luxury cars, the Ram’s cab an excellent place to spend time either on the road or a night on the town. The 2020 Ram 1500’s interior scored an incredible 4.7 out of 5 in our editor’s evaluation. Something almost unheard of in any vehicle.”
High Marks for the 2020 Jeep Gladiator Interior
The Autotrader editors were also impressed with the 2020 Jeep Gladiator in its first year on the market. They praised the Gladiator’s leather seats, innovative storage and luxury materials.
“The Jeep Gladiator’s interior is perfectly in line with the overall ruggedness of the Gladiator pickup. We picked the Gladiator, not because of any inherent luxury, but because it somehow manages to be stylish, functional and comfortable without being garish or soft,” said Moody. “Like the Gladiator itself, this Jeep’s interior is purpose-driven and is the perfect assistant to whatever task is at hand – it looks cool and effectively mimics the tough, functional exterior while remaining authentic to all we expect from Jeep.”
