The Chicago Auto Show this week appears to be all about off-roading and the more extreme, the better. Jeep is out to show everyone that it intends to stay “King of the Hill” with a new Xtreme Recon package. The factory installed package will improve the 2021 Jeep Wrangler’s 4x4 capability and give it best in class ratings in a number of areas.
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Xtreme Recon
Jeep Wrangler Xtreme Recon package offers 35-inch tires which will give it the best-in-class approach angle, departure angle, ground clearance and water fording capability. Jeep will also have an industry-first 100:1 crawl ratio available for the Wrangler Rubicon starting later this year.
According to Jeep, Here are the Xtreme Numbers:
- Approach angle – 47.4 degrees
- Breakover angle – 26.7 degrees
- Departure angle – 40.4 degrees
- Ground clearance – 12.9 inches
- Water fording – 33.6 inches
Jeep is using its highly respected custom shops to create this new Xtreme Recon version and make it available straight from the factory. The Xtreme Recon will also have a factory-installed 1.5-inch lift kit. It will feature 17-inch by 8-inch beadlock capable wheels. Because of the rugged terrain that the Wrangler is expected to encounter, it will have a reinforced swing gate.
2021 Jeep Wrangler Xtreme Recon Ordering
The Xtreme Recon package will be available on both the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4-door and Wrangler Rubicon 392 models. Ordering is open now and production is scheduled to start in August. What is particularly attractive about a custom package of this type is that it is installed straight from the factory, so it is installed by people who do this for a living, not someone trying it for the first time. It also means it is covered by the original factory warranty. Most importantly, for many people, the overall cost can be added into and financed as part of the vehicle, rather than having to come up with the money to add custom details later on. The Xtreme Recon Package will add $3,995 to the cost of the Jeep Wrangler.

New Sunrider Flip Top for Hardtop Roof Available for Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators
Jeep also revealed an innovative new roof for all Jeep Wranglers and Jeep Gladiators. The new Sunrider Flip Top Roof offers a front-row soft top that quickly and easily flips back for an open-air driving experience, without having to remove the whole roof.
“There is nothing like the open-air freedom a Jeep can offer on the road or on the trails,” said Jim Morrison, Vice President, Jeep Brand North America. “With this innovative new feature, our passionate owners will have yet another way to enhance their open-air experience.”
“We specifically developed the new Sunrider Flip Top for Hardtop for Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator owners who want to quickly and easily embrace the outdoors,” said Mark Bosanac, North America Vice President, Mopar Service, Parts & Customer Care. “Across the entire Jeep lineup, Mopar offers more than 500 quality-tested, factory-backed parts and accessories.”
The Sunrider Flip Top is made from ultra-premium durable black twill fabric common on many high-end luxury convertibles. The new ready-to-install top comes with mounting rails and hardware included and easily installs in place of the hardtop Freedom panels. The Sunrider Flip Top for Hardtop (Mopar part number 82216370AA) is available for 2018-2021 Jeep Wrangler two-door and four-door models, and 2020-2021 Gladiator models, is priced at $895.
