General Motors intends to take the lead in EV range when its 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck debuts this year. The new president of North America, Rory Harvey, says the work truck will get 450 miles when fully charged. Chevrolet has already updated the Silverado EV’s press page with the new estimate. The press page also says that the new mileage range is EPA-estimated, meaning that the EPA certified those results in its testing.
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Aiming for Best-in-Class Range
With the new 450 mile range, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV would surpass the Ford Lightning’s 320 mile range. The GMC press page still gives the GMC Sierra EV a GM-estimated range of 400 miles on a full charge. The GMC HUMMER EV pickup has a GM-estimated range of 329 miles. Ram is promising that the 2025 Ram REV pickup will have a version that will go 500 miles, but it won’t debut until late next year.
GM is hoping that the new range and the affordable price will make the work truck a hot seller, especially for fleet customers. When the Silverado EV work truck launches, it will have the 450 mile range. Afterwards, there will be other models available with different options when it comes to battery sizes and range.
"GM Fleet has long provided customers with great products and services, an exceptional customer experience and innovative solutions to meet their unique business needs,” said Ed Peper, vice president of GM Fleet. “We’re excited to launch the Silverado EV, providing customers with a true work-capable truck to help them begin the transition to an electric fleet and assist them in achieving their own sustainability goals.”
GM says it will deliver the first work truck to customers this spring and start production of the RST model later this fall. The RST Edition 1 is loaded with more premium options. According to Chevrolet's website, the starting price for a Silverado EV is $39,900 plus $1,695 destination charge.
According to the Chevrolet press site,
“In 2023, the Silverado EV will be available in multiple specs:
- At launch: WT with 450-mile range on a full charge
- Soon after launch: WT with a GM-estimated 350-mile range on a full charge
- Fall 2023: RST First Edition model with 400-mile range and MSRP of $105,000 plus destination and dealer fees
After initial launch, Chevrolet will unleash the full Silverado EV portfolio, including WT (with a starting MSRP of $39,900 + $1,695 destination fees), Trail Boss and more. Customers will have the ability to content the truck across various price ranges, with MSRPs around $50,000, $60,000, $70,000, $80,000 and more, allowing them to choose the truck that meets their capability and pricing needs.”
