2025 GMC Terrain Celebrates its Truck Roots with New Design

The 2025 GMC Terrain looks a lot more like its GMC Sierra big brother and adds loads of technology.

GMC is refreshing its entire lineup, and the biggest winner is the 2025 GMC Terrain Compact SUV. The front of the SUV looks much more like the 2025 GMC Sierra truck, which makes it look much more impressive. GMC is also giving the Terrain a more aggressive stance and more technology, which will help it better compete against the other SUVs in the category like the CR-V and the Rogue. GMC positions itself as a premium brand, more like Buick, but not a luxury brand.

“The 2025 GMC Terrain builds on GMC’s strengths and offers our latest premium technology and safety features, while bringing a fresh, bold design to our two-row SUV,” said Duncan Aldred, global vice president, Buick and GMC. “With the next-gen Terrain and updated 2025 Yukon both slated to launch later this year, the entire GMC SUV lineup will be refreshed by year end, giving customers the latest design, the best technology and the best driving experience we’ve ever offered in our SUVs.”

2025 GMC Terrain

I reported previously that GMC was refreshing and upgrading the Terrain for 2025. GMC is giving the SUV more interior room, more standard safety features and a lot more technology. The Terrain is designed to be a gateway model, drawing younger families into the lineup, leading eventually to the full-size Yukon. It is similar in size to Chevrolet’s popular Equinox SUV.

The 2025 GMC Terrain will appear first in the new Elevation trim later this year. The next-generation Terrain contains much more standard technology. The Terrain now has a 15-inch-diagonal GMC Infotainment System and 11-inch-diagonal driver information center. Using the touchscreen or standard Google Assistant, drivers can reply to text messages, get directions through Google Maps, or control select vehicle functions. The 2025 Terrain also has up to eight available camera views including an optional rear camera mirror.

Drivers are also able to order additional technology like:

  • 5G Wi-Fi hotspot capability
  • HD Surround Vision camera
  • AutoSense power liftgate, which automatically opens the liftgate in the presence of the key fob

2025 GMC Terrain Features New Truck-Inspired Design

New in 2025, GMC is offering Terrain buyers the option of having a two-tone roof in black or gray. The interior highlights the width of the cabin. The 2025 Terrain will also be available with wireless chargers located conveniently near the armrests. We recently rented a Terrain and family members commented that it would be nice to have a bit more room in the interior.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features Include:

  • Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking
  • Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Rear Cross Traffic Braking
  • Reverse Automatic Braking
  • Side Bicyclist Alert
  • Blind Zone Steering Assist

The 2025 Terrain is expected to launch in the Elevation trim this year. In 2025, GMC will launch the 2026 Terrain AT4 and the 2026 Terrain Denali will follow later in 2025.

Standard content on the next generation AT4 – the most capable Terrain AT4 ever – includes:

  • Selectable AT4-exclusive Terrain Mode
  • Lifted ride height
  • Metal underbody protection shield
  • Red front recovery hooks
  • AWD and Hill Descent Control

Denali is the most luxurious version. It adds more even advanced technology.

Standard features include:

  • Front and rear heated seats
  • 19-inch wheels (20-inch wheels available)
  • Unique Smart Frequency Dampers for improved ride comfort
  • AWD and Hill Descent Control

All Terrains come standard with a 1.5L Turbocharged engine, offering 175 horsepower and 203 lb.-ft. of torque and up to 1,500 pounds max trailering. All-wheel-drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission are standard on Elevation at launch. GMC will release pricing details closer to launch.
