Chevrolet has confirmed that it will release more details this fall about a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2. Fans are asking for every detail they can find about the new off-road version that is expected to be patterned after the already popular mid-size 2022 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 model. Off-roading is extremely popular right now and Chevrolet is under pressure to compete with the 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor and the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX.

The new off-road ZR2 is reportedly being tested with huge 35” rugged terrain tires and new underbody upgraded skid plates. The additional underbody protection mirrors what is found on the Raptor and the TRX. While Chevrolet is not confirming the speculation about the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 model, it is important to note what special features are included on the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado truck.
Features I would Expect on the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2
According to a Chevrolet fact sheet, the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is designed to “offer exceptional performance from technical rock-crawling and tight two-track trails to high-speed desert running and daily driving”. You can expect similar design features for the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2. The Colorado ZR2 has a 2-inch higher suspension than the regular Colorado, to offer better ground clearance. The Colorado ZR2 has class-exclusive front and rear electronically locking differentials. The Colorado ZR2 also has segment-exclusive off-road application of Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) damper technology. The Colorado ZR2 also has a standard Rear Vision Camera and standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control, trailer sway control and hill-start assist. I would bet the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 would have all of those features or better.
2022 Chevrolet Silverado Update
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado lineup is expected to be refreshed for the 2022 model. In fact, in the recent video that GM released about the new Super Cruise trailering and lane-changing features, the truck is camouflaged. It could even be the ZR2 featured in that video for all we know. I would expect that the ZR2 would have nearly all the bells and whistles that Chevrolet has to offer on a truck as it prepares to compete with the Ford Raptor and the Ram TRX. In Chevrolet’s teaser video, it says that we will find out more in fall of 2021. That is right around the corner.
