Shortly after introducing the Dodge//SRT New Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat NHRA Funny Car, a stunning dark purple 2019 Dodge Challenger appeared in a cloud of burning rubber.
Drag Racer Leah Pritchett was driving the new 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack that carries the designation 1320. The 1320 stands for the quarter mile distance. This new version of the popular Dodge Challenger is designed for the grassroots drag racer. It is set up for racing, with a drag mode, line lock, and special brakes to take full advantage of its HEMI V-8 that gets 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque. Best of all, the 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 is street-legal.
Be On the Lookout for the Angry Bee
The 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack also carries a special logo called the “Angry Bee”. The “Angry Bee” plays off the famous Super Bee logo from back in the 70’s. The “Angry Bee” is ready to sting the other drivers at the track.
According to Dodge, with a quarter-mile (1,320 feet) elapsed time of 11.7 seconds at 115 mph, the showroom-stock 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 is the fastest naturally aspirated, street-legal muscle car available.
Steve Beahm, who heads passenger car brands, including Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat, “All it takes is an evening spent at a local drag strip to learn that the grassroots drag-racing community is large and extremely loyal to their cars. We created the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 for the heart of the sport, the bracket racer who wants to drive to the track, suit up, go fast and go home with a big smile and maybe a trophy in the trunk with minimal prep and upkeep.”
Special Equipment Makes the 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T 1320 Race Ready
Dodge uses its years of experience on the track to give the 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 exclusive technology. Standard features include a race suspension, Drag Mode, line lock, TransBrake, Torque Reserve and street legal drag radial tires.
According to Dodge, the TransBrake locks the output shaft of the automatic transmission to hold the car stationary before a standing start. Torque Reserve – works in conjunction with the TransBrake and manages the fuel flow to cylinders to maximize power delivery. Line Lock engages the front brakes to hold the Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 stationary, but leaves the rear wheels free for a burnout to heat up the rear tires.
To make sure you are race-ready, the car comes standard with only a driver’s seat, but you can buy a passenger seat and rear seat for only a buck.
The stunning dark purple color is called “Black Eye” and Dodge is testing it to see if customers want it as a production color.
Racer Leah Pritchett, who drove the car into the news conference, with a spectacular burnout, will sport a special 1320-themed paint scheme on her Mopar Dodge Top Fuel Dragster during the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals Powered by Mopar, July 20-22 at Bandimere Speedway outside Denver.
The 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 Package adds $3,995 to the MSRP of $38,995 for the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack. The mandatory automatic transmission adds $1,595. The 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 will be available for dealer orders in late 2018; vehicles should start arriving in dealerships in the first quarter of 2019. Fuel economy should be announced closer to the vehicles arriving in dealerships.
