The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel leads in the truck segment when it comes to fuel range. It also leads the pack when it comes to torque and diesel towing capability. Those are two of the reasons that Green Car Journal just named the 2020 Ram 1500 as Green Truck of the Year for the second year in a row.
Many find the possibility of any truck being considered “green” as highly unlikely. But the Green Car Journal finds the 2020 Ram 1500 the greenest of the group.
"The Ram 1500 stands out in the pickup field, not only with its exclusive use of eTorque mild-hybrid technology, but also with a more powerful EcoDiesel engine that’s EPA rated up to 32 highway mpg," said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com. "That kind of fuel efficiency – and attendant carbon emissions reduction – is particularly impressive in a pickup offering the great functionality, recreational and work capabilities, and overall driving enjoyment of the Ram 1500. Its distinction as the 2020 Green Truck of the Year™ is well deserved."
The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Has Incredible Fuel Range
The fuel economy also leads to incredible fuel range. If the owner opts for the 33-gallon tank on the EcoDiesel, you have a potential fuel range of over 1000 miles.
I’m sure you have read some of the stories about the incredible towing capacity. The Ram 1500’s all-new turbocharged 3.0- liter V-6 EcoDiesel pushes out 480 lb.-ft. of torque and has towing capacity of 12,560 pounds.
"The all-new EcoDiesel engine and our eTorque mild-hybrid V-6 Pentastar and V-8 HEMI® engines offer Ram 1500 customers multiple fuel-efficient powertrain choices," said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand. "We are honored to receive the Green Truck of the Year award, affirming our commitment to powertrain technology leadership in the truck segment."
The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is Quieter and More Comfortable
I was really impressed with the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel because it is so much quieter than previous EcoDiesel generations. It doesn’t have any of the annoying diesel rumble or rattle that can drive you crazy. It also doesn’t have the typical diesel smell. The 2020 Ram EcoDiesel that I drove had great acceleration, it didn’t lag like some other diesels. Driving in the foothills of Colorado it had plenty of pickup to handle the steep inclines. The new turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 is the third generation of the EcoDiesel and has 14 percent more torque. The horsepower is also up 8 percent to 260 horsepower. Ram is offering the EcoDiesel option across its lineup, even in its most affordable models and trim packages.
Green Car Journal has a list of criteria that it judges the trucks on. The staff and experts rank the trucks based on capability, versatility, safety, style and over-all value.
The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty was just named MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year and is a finalist for the 2020 North American Truck of the Year.
