By volume, the 2024 Ram 1500 Big Horn/Lone Star edition is Ram’s top seller. It is easy to understand when you look at the pickup’s performance numbers. With the new SST engine, the Ram 1500 has more power than most drivers will ever need. It may not have every bell and whistle found on Ram’s upscale, luxury models, but it has all the technology to keep you safe and secure while on the road.
The New 3.0L Hurricane Engine
Much has been written, including by me, about the new 2025 Ram 1500 RHO model. The Ram 1500 RHO replaces the big HEMI engines. The Ram 1500 Big Horn/ Lone Star edition features the SST 3.0L Hurricane Engine. The SST stands for straight six turbo. It is also called a straight six. The engine uses six cylinders all in a straight line. The SST in the 2024 Ram 1500 Big Horn/ Lone Star has 420-horsepower and 469 lb.-ft. of torque. It has a maximum towing capacity of 11,550 pounds. Very few drivers will ever come close to needing that much towing power. It is more than enough horsepower and torque to handle most everyday tasks.
The Ram 1500 SST in the picture was one of the vehicles featured at this year’s 2024 Rocky Mountain Driving Experience. It received great reviews from the journalists who were driving.
2024 Ram 1500 Amenities
The more expensive 2025 Rams will be available with a larger 14.5” touchscreen, but the 2024 Ram 1500 SST features the 12” touchscreen that Ram made famous. It also has the latest version of the Uconnect 5 system and gives drivers access to performance pages and allows drivers to see the truck’s exterior cameras. Drivers are also able to opt for many of the trailering upgrades to make towing easier.
Pricing is the Big Draw for the 2024 Ram 1500 SST
I believe the real reason that the Ram 1500 Big Horn/Lone Star is the biggest seller is affordability. Ram has managed to hold the line on pricing when it seems most other vehicles are getting more expensive every day. The 2024 Ram 1500 Big Horn starts just under $47,000. The model that we saw at the RMDE had most available options and was over $60,000. Several other Ram 1500 models like the Rebel and the Laramie start at over $60,000. The super-loaded luxury Tungsten model starts at just under $90,000. I can see why buyers love the 2024 Ram 1500 Big Horn/ Lone Star SST. Better price, better gas mileage and plenty of luxury in a more affordable package.
