Two Audi crossovers have received the highest possible ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The agency awarded the Audi Q5 and Q7 5-Star Safety Ratings.
Audis tested under new car assessment program
To achieve the 5-Star Rating, NHTSA tested both crossovers under the agency’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). NHTSA Car Safety Program NHTSA bases a vehicle’s scores on the results of front and side crash tests, plus an evaluation of rollover resistance. “Having the Q5 and Q7 earn the highest safety rating from NHTSA shows our commitment to make overall crashworthiness and superior driver assistance programs a top priority for our customers,” Scott Keogh, president, Audi of America, commented.
Audi’s Q5 and Q7 feature systems that help drivers navigate the road and traffic with increased ease and peace of mind. For example, Audi’s standard pre sense® basic can prepare a vehicle for impact by closing the side windows and panoramic sunroof, while pre-tensioning the front seatbelts, if it senses an impending collision. Pre sense city can start full braking at speeds of up to 52 mph if it detects a collision. Also, the system identifies stationary vehicles and pedestrians. The final piece of the pre sense system – rear – monitors traffic behind the car and initiates actions similar to the basic part of the system. Audi’s side-assist provides blindspot monitoring with LED indicators built into each sideview mirror housing.
With the 5-Star-Rating, Q5 has become the most awarded Audi SUV/crossover of the year. The 2018 Q5 also was named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick, earning a “superior” for front crash prevention when equipped with the available driver assistance and standard front crash prevention system.
Named KBB Best Buy and auto group’s best SUV
Also, Q5 was named a Kelley Blue Book Best Buy among all SUVs and crossovers, as well as the Kelley Blue Book Best Auto Tech Award winner for luxury brands. The Northwest Automotive Press Association named it its Best SUV.
The 2017 Audi Q7 was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick, earning “good” ratings in all five crashworthiness evaluations. Audi’s pre sense® system – it provides crash warning, and automatic emergency braking earned the Q7 a “super” rating in front-crash prevention.
