I was lucky enough to attend the next-gen Tacoma premiere in Hawaii this past summer. And I got to sit in and evaluate several different trim levels.
In short, what a big difference between model years and generations. I walked away extremely impressed.
Well, these past few weeks, I had the chance to get even more face-to-face time with 2024 Toyota Tacoma.
Today I will focus on TRD Off-Road Tacoma.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Trim Levels
The 2024 Tacoma is offered in 8 different trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner (this one is wild), TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, Trailhunter, and TRD Pro.
Fortunately, I have been up close and personal with all but the SR to this point.
Any idea what grades you like best yet?
2024 Tacoma TRD Off-Road Engine
Buyers can choose from a few different powertrain options in 2024.
First, the i-FORCE.
Look for a 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that produces 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. torque. This is matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota also brought back a stick shift (Save the Manuals), a 6-speed manual transmission. This brings the power numbers down slightly to 270 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. torque, but it gives drivers the ability to really become one with their ride and the road.
And this is much better production than a 2023 Tacoma (remember, the most you could get was 278 horsepower and 265 lb.-ft. torque).
The other choice you can pick is the i-FORCE MAX. This is the powerful one.
The i-FORCE MAX (or Tacoma Hybrid) utilizes this same 2.4-liter turbo but adds in a 48hp electric motor. Drivers can expect a whopping 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. torque. I can only imagine the low-end torque production here.
Which configuration is best for you?

2024 Tacoma TRD Off-Road Features
For those looking to maximize their driving experience off the road, 2024 Tacoma TRD Off-Road is loaded with features that help accomplish this very thing.
Look for familiar tools such as locking rear differential, crawl control, and multi-terrain select.
A new helpful feature for 2024 Tacoma is the sway bar disconnect button. This can improve wheel articulation by 10% compared to the previous generation Tacoma.
Also useful is the 14-inch multi-terrain monitor. Using this can help you easily see your pitch and roll status, in front of you, behind you, in the bed, and along the sides.
Taking advantage of convenient towing features like trailer backup guide and straight path assist can help you back your trailer or boat like a champ in a straight line.
Score. Major score!
