This is my favorite time of year in the automotive industry. I get to see all the new and shiny technology, trim levels, colors, gadgets, and models. And there has been plenty to get excited about. Just take all-new 2023 Crown and 2023 Sequoia, for example.
Although the vehicle I am talking about today does not have nearly as much “newness” as those models, I am still having all the positive and excited vibes for what I saw in person yesterday.
The 2023 Camry TRD.
This is not a model year where Toyota Camry will be redesigned or even mildly refreshed. However, there are still some cool changes you may be interested in.
The big one for me is 2023 Camry Nightshade Edition, with 19-inch TRD matte bronze-finished wheels. Especially in brand new Reservoir Blue color. It is absolutely an eye-catcher.
Also, Cavalry Blue was the signature color for 2022 Camry TRD. Now it makes its way to both Camry SE and Camry XSE for 2023.
Speaking of Camry TRD…
2023 Camry TRD
Camry TRD has taken a page from the Toyota TRD Pro playbook for the last few years. This now has a hero, or exclusive, color each year. We have seen Camry TRD in Ice Edge, Cavalry Blue, and now in new Underground color for 2023.
Underground is difficult to describe in print form. Maybe a combination of Magnetic Gray with Cement mixed in. This shade gives 2023 Toyota Camry TRD a dark, mean, sinister, and wicked look all wrapped into one.
Luckily, I filmed a video review for my “ToyotaJeff Reviews” YouTube channel yesterday and it is already up on my channel. I hope this gives you a good idea of the vibe Camry TRD is giving off.
Notice the new interior look in the video, with red and black striped seat inserts making a great interior first impression.
On a side note, you can also find Underground color on the refreshed 2023 Corolla, as seen here in my previous Torque News story.
Fans Comment on Camry TRD Underground
People who watched my 2023 Camry TRD video left comments on their opinions, and the results were extremely positive.
Brian commented. “I love this new Camry’s color!”
LaMont said. “Dude, the color alone just bumped that car up to a 10. Had I not just purchased my current car a lil over a year and a half ago, I’d be all in at my local dealer.”
“Darn it. Wish my 21 magnetic gray Tundra was this color.” Lamented Balkee Bartockamoos (I loved you in Perfect Strangers by the way Balkee).
“That color is mean. I wonder how it would look on the 4Runner.” Asked TheVAluver99.
Garrett added. “Really wish they put this color on the 4Runner or Tacoma.”

As the owner of a 2020 TRD Camry I am admittedly biased, and also more informed. This car is an absolute blast to drive. It has plenty of room for 4 people and definitely has no issues with the ability to pass traffic at will. It's quick enough to be fun and tame enough to carry a family. This is a gentleman's sport sedan of epic proportions. Those who are dismissive are ignorantly missing out on a great car.

We recently purchased the new 2023 Camry TRD in the new underground color. We love almost everything about her. Unfortunately the glossy clear coat shows all the water spots and dust particles. She is very hard to keep clean but a lot of fun to drive.

We ordered our Toyota cross in June of 2022 and still find that it is currently not even made yet. Can you indicate how long it will be before our dealer is able to bring it in. We live in Nova Scotia Canada.

Check with another dealership to see if your dealership is on the list to get one. This happened to me when getting my 2022 TRD in the Cavery Blue. My dealership wasn't on the list to receive one but never admitted it to me. The second dealership found two for me that were scheduled to be manufactured. I called my dealership to give them a chance to swap vehicles with the dealerships scheduled to receive these two cars. They finally agreed and I had my car within a week of being made. We absolutely love our TRD. I'll definitely buy another one.
