2024 Land Cruiser Debuts – is Next-Gen 4Runner Now Dead?

I attended the world premiere of 2024 Land Cruiser last night at the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum in Salt Lake City. First off, let me say how grateful I am to have been invited by Toyota USA.

Next, I feel this new Land Cruiser will be a huge hit. With a price point starting in the mid-$50,000’s, plenty of fans will give it a second look. Let’s not forget the previous United States generation approached $90,000 and higher.

But if 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser MSRP starts with a 5 as its first number (kind of like watching The Price is Right here), does this mean this is replacing the next generation 4Runner?

More on that in just a minute. Let’s learn about the new Land Cruiser.

2024 Land Cruiser Specs

Buyers can choose from three different trim levels: Land Cruiser 1958, Land Cruiser, and Land Cruiser First Edition.

All 2024 Land Cruiser configurations come with the i-FORCE MAX engine, a 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 48-hp electric motor and a NiMH battery pack. This system works as a team with its 8-speed automatic transmission. I have not driven one yet, but I cannot wait to get behind the wheel as soon as possible.

You can expect 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. torque. Keep in mind that although there is no longer a Land Cruiser V8 engine, that previous generation delivered 381 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft. torque. More power for a significant price reduction.

However, we still have not addressed the next-gen Toyota 4Runner. Does this mean plans have been scrapped?

Next-gen Toyota 4Runner

So, the question now turns to, is there room enough for both next-gen land cruiser and next-gen 4Runner?

I would not anticipate we have seen the last of Toyota 4Runner. In fact, I feel that we will be seeing news of a new 4Runner within a reasonable time. I have been given no information confirming or denying this, but it’s just a hunch I have.

We will probably see a new body style Toyota 4Runner that matches the tough and rugged appearances now seen with Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma, Lexus GX, and Land Cruiser.

It would not surprise me in the least to learn of a Toyota 4Runner i-FORCE MAX (4Runner Hybrid). And around 326 hp and 465 torque just like 2024 Tacoma and 2024 Land Cruiser.

My guess for next-gen Toyota 4Runner pricing would be a range of around $40,000 - $55,000 (or a little higher – this is just a ballpark guess, remember).
