In the past, the Toyota 4Runner has been known for its strong and well-deserved reputation for high quality, reliability and dependability over time. It is a vehicle that drivers can count on for toughness off-roading as well.
Now things are changing and evolving with the 2020 4Runner. It is becoming the multi-dimensional force across all areas, including safety, convenience and technology. When you add gloss black styling into the mix, you have the makings of 2020 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition.
Just how did 4Runner Nightshade get its name anyway?
For those who have already come to know and love the Toyota 4Runner, you know the luxury trim level to look for is the Limited. However, beginning with the 2019 4Runner, a new Nightshade model was introduced to add sportiness and a little mystique to the brand.
Nightshade, as its name would imply, adds in gloss black accents all around this popular SUV. Look for 20” gloss black alloy wheels, side mirror caps, door handles, rocker panels, roof rails, window moldings and exhaust tip. Black badging, including the Toyota symbol, along with “Limited” and “4Runner” logos, lines the exterior as well. Black chrome, as opposed to the Limited’s bright and shiny chrome, adorns the front grille and rear bumper.
Interior “blacked out” styling includes black steering wheel, shift knob, center console panel and inner door handle grips.
The 2020 4Runner adds new safety features
This might spark a small debate, but I feel the biggest addition to the 2020 Toyota 4Runner is Toyota Safety Sense (TSS-P). This is an extremely important active safety package designed to help you limit distractions and avoid accidents. TSS-P includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert and automatic high beams.
Adding in Toyota Safety Sense will probably prove to be a chief factor in whether a customer will act on their urge to upgrade to the 2020 4Runner. This is good stuff, 4Runner fans.
Big multimedia upgrades in 2020 4Runner
While Toyota 4Runner continues to gain a loyal, almost cult-like following from SUV fans and enthusiasts, one of the biggest needs for improvement was with interior styling. In short, it could use a nice refresh.
People asking for this upgrade will have their wishes granted, as 2020 4Runner has redesigned the multimedia control display to look fresh and modern.
Expect to see 8” multimedia touch screens that feature Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa commands. This is also big news, for it will now be easier and much more convenient to use navigation functions, to make and receive calls, and search for and play specific music.
On a slight side note, you will also find standard CarPlay and Android Auto on the 2020 Tacoma, 2020 Tundra and 2020 Sequoia as well. The 2020 Camry also features these applications, and you can expect to find it with the 2020 RAV4 as well.
Back seat passengers can charge their devices easily with standard across-the-board double USB ports. They are located on the back side of the center console and are very easily accessible.
Time for your thoughts on 4Runner
Buyers looking for the 2020 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition can find it at dealerships beginning this month. Factory MSRP for the 4x2 model is $46,625 while the 4x4 starts at $48,660.

These new upgrades and additions will make 4Runner extremely popular for the 2020 model year. This is especially the case with grade levels like the 2020 4Runner TRD Pro in Army Green that is already proving challenging to get.
What do you think of the upgrades to the 2020 4Runner? Do you prefer the chrome styling of the Limited or gloss-black Nightshade? If you currently own a 4Runner, how many miles do you have on it?
