Top (Huge) Updates for 2023 Toyota Highlander

One of the biggest 2023 Toyota models to gain the public’s attention is Highlander. This is a year where Toyota Highlander received a whole host of updates, additions, and changes.

Including the entire engine itself.

2023 Toyota Highlander Engine

Toyota Highlander has gone turbo. New for 2023 is a 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 265 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. torque. This is a significant increase in torque production versus 2022, which saw 263 lb.-ft. torque. Highlander turbo should be useful to drivers when merging on to a highway, when pulling out into heavier traffic, and when traveling up hills.

The new turbo engine is standard for all gasoline-only Highlander models.

There is no change to Highlander Hybrid engine options. Look for a carryover of the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine/electric motor combo. This delivers 243 net hybrid system horsepower.

2023 Highlander Changes

Aside from the turbocharged engine switch, look for the biggest 2023 Toyota Highlander changes in the interior cabin.

My favorite addition is the new Toyota Audio Multimedia system in all gasoline and hybrid trim levels. Passengers can take advantage of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, much-improved voice command capabilities, fast response times, over-the-air navigation updates, and plenty more.

Multimedia screen sizes are either 8-inch or 12.3-inch in size.

Also, multi-information displays can range from 7-inch displays to 12.3-inch color displays. I really enjoy the new drive mode and theme display modes.

The other notable 2023 Highlander change comes with the new location of the wireless charging pad. Previously found inside the center console, passengers can now charge their phones right under the multimedia screen on the smart storage shelf. This is a simple and genius engineering idea.
