From the very day that the C8 Corvette was imagined, Corvette fans everywhere wanted performance of a Lamborghini or a Ferrari for the price of a Corvette. On July 18th we finally got to see the 2020 C8 Corvette in the flesh and all of our wishes came true, at least that's what GM says.
Motor Trend is the first third party automotive reviewer to push the car to its limits. They are still in process of doing this and haven't been able to release anything official yet but this is a huge first step. This means we will soon know what the limits are of the new 2020 Corvette and whether or not it lives up to the hype.
Motor Trend Testing of 2020 C8 Corvette In Progress
Motor Trend Features Editor Scott Evans posted on his Instagram account with this comment: "That. Just. Happened. MotorTrend has a C8 Corvette. We’re testing it. I’m driving it. Can’t tell you for a while, though, so please enjoy all the pics and video I’m about to blow your feed with." He goes on to say, “Launch control. Yes, there’s no manual, but manuals don’t launch or shift like this.“ and finally, “Moar launch control! How fast is it? Can’t say yet.“
It is definitely looking fast if you want to check it out for yourself head over to his Instagram. He has posted a few videos showing the car launching on their drag strip and it looks amazing. You can check out his videos here.
Why Is This A Big Deal?
Because GM can tell us until they are blue in the face that the car has a 2.9 second 0-60 time but if the average guy can't replicate it then it doesn't matter. Having a third party test the car to push its limits to get the same (or very close) time means the car was actually designed to hit that mark time and time again. Another reason this is huge is because we are going to get a massive amount of performance testing that GM didn't necessarily include.
