A Tesla Cybertruck Buyer Says He Took Delivery of a Defective Truck Because Tesla Promised Him It Would be an Easy Fix, However, His Truck Returned Even More Damaged After a Service Visit

A Cybertruck owner accepted delivery of a defective truck, believing Tesla could easily fix the issues. However, he discovered there was no service opening for a month. Even worse, after a long wait, Tesla returned his Cybertruck even more damaged.

A brand-new Cybertruck owner from Washington, D.C., says he accepted delivery of a defective Cybertruck because a Tesla representative assured him the issue would be easy to fix.

The Cybertruck has a visibly misaligned tailgate, several uneven panel gaps, and produces a deafening noise when the HVAC is on.

Tesla assured him that the issue would be easy to fix during a service visit; however, after taking delivery, the Cybertruck owner was astonished to find out that the earliest Tesla could schedule him for service was a month later.

This is certainly not ideal; first, Tesla is pressuring the Cybertruck buyer to accept delivery despite a visible defect.

Second, the EV maker says there will be no service opening to address these issues for an entire month.

This is definitely frustrating, however, the Cybertruck owner states he waited a month for his service appointment and brought his brand-new vehicle in for repairs.

However, to his dismay, Tesla returned the vehicle without fixing any of the issues. Even worse, Tesla returned the vehicle damaged, adding more dents and scratches on the truck.

This is certainly not an exemplary treatment for a customer who purchased a $100,000 truck. 

However, if you think this is bad, the Cybertruck owner now has to wait another month for a service opening. This is to address both the original problems identified during delivery and the new damage caused during the first service visit.

The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

He writes…

“I'm a new Tesla owner. I picked up my Cybertruck a month ago.

The biggest issue with my Cybertruck is a misaligned tailgate. It’s truly the worst problem with the car, which Tesla assured me would be an easy fix, so I went ahead and accepted the delivery.

Sure, there are other concerns about panel gaps that I've mentioned before, but they don't bother me as much as the misaligned tailgate. Everyone can see that the rear light bar is crooked. 

So, I waited a month for the first appointment to get it fixed. The invoice says it's repaired, but it looks exactly the same as before.

Moreover, there is now a dent in my fender that Tesla says they will replace at my next appointment, which is another month away.

Now I have to worry about whether they will damage a fender, create more panel gaps, or cause misalignments.

It's going to be a year of monthly service center visits until things are fixed. What an inconvenience!

I included a picture of the front frunk trim; they added a small sharp dent to the edge of that panel as well.

And for those wondering, I had them check the A/C because it was extremely loud, and they said that's normal after inspecting it. Perhaps it's a 20° cold morning issue. That might explain these dents.

Below his post, the Cybertruck owner shared several pictures showing the misaligned tailgate, uneven panel gaps and several dents and scratches.

This is definitely not an ideal situation, and looking at the comments, several other Cybertruck owners shared they are facing similar misalignment issues, and after multiple service center visits, Tesla hasn’t been able to fix the defects.

A fellow Cybertruck owner from Texas writes…

“What’s sad is I’ve seen more than one tailgate worse than yours. They always seem to have this problem on new models, but you’d think they could figure it out eventually.”

Another Cybertruck owner from Virginia shares these sentiments, writing…

“My Cybertruck has been back to service 4 times with this exact issue and it has not been fixed. 

Same with the driver door. I tried to fix the driver door, not so easy as the door is thick and heavy and the alignment is minuscule. My tailgate is off at least as much as yours.

If you find the "magic sauce" let me know!”

A third Cybertruck owner from Boston, Massachusetts writes…

“I’m sorry you’re going through this, and I agree, it’s incredibly frustrating how Tesla lets their service techs get away with things like this.”

I got mine 3 months ago and have already had two service visits (with a 3rd scheduled) because they can’t fix the little things correctly the first time or don’t order the parts until I show up for the service appointment. What on earth?

I asked them to make some minor adjustments to a few small panels that are slightly misaligned. They noted on the service invoice that everything was fixed, but I can tell it wasn’t touched at all.

I think they outright lied to make it seem like they did the work, hoping the owner wouldn’t bother to report it again."

After several Cybertruck owners reported ongoing issues despite multiple visits to service centers, the Cybertruck owner from Washington, DC, shares his frustration.

He writes…

“So you’re telling me the tailgate can't be fixed? That's really frustrating. I haven’t driven the truck at all since they dented the left front fender.

I feel that if I ask Tesla to remove the entire front side panel and replace it, it will likely cause more issues.

Additionally, I discovered even more dents on my frunk that were caused during the service center visit."
