A Tesla Cybertruck Buyer Says He Took Delivery of a Defective Truck Because Tesla Promised Him It Would be an Easy Fix, However, His Truck Returned Even More Damaged After a Service Visit

A Cybertruck owner accepted delivery of a defective truck, believing Tesla could easily fix the issues. However, he discovered there was no service opening for a month. Even worse, after a long wait, Tesla returned his Cybertruck even more damaged.

A brand-new Cybertruck owner from Washington, D.C., says he accepted delivery of a defective Cybertruck because a Tesla representative assured him the issue would be easy to fix.

The Cybertruck has a visibly misaligned tailgate, several uneven panel gaps, and produces a deafening noise when the HVAC is on.

Tesla assured him that the issue would be easy to fix during a service visit; however, after taking delivery, the Cybertruck owner was astonished to find out that the earliest Tesla could schedule him for service was a month later.

This is certainly not ideal; first, Tesla is pressuring the Cybertruck buyer to accept delivery despite a visible defect.

Second, the EV maker says there will be no service opening to address these issues for an entire month.

This is definitely frustrating, however, the Cybertruck owner states he waited a month for his service appointment and brought his brand-new vehicle in for repairs.

However, to his dismay, Tesla returned the vehicle without fixing any of the issues. Even worse, Tesla returned the vehicle damaged, adding more dents and scratches on the truck.

This is certainly not an exemplary treatment for a customer who purchased a $100,000 truck.

However, if you think this is bad, the Cybertruck owner now has to wait another month for a service opening. This is to address both the original problems identified during delivery and the new damage caused during the first service visit.

The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

He writes…

“I'm a new Tesla owner. I picked up my Cybertruck a month ago.

The biggest issue with my Cybertruck is a misaligned tailgate. It’s truly the worst problem with the car, which Tesla assured me would be an easy fix, so I went ahead and accepted the delivery.

Sure, there are other concerns about panel gaps that I've mentioned before, but they don't bother me as much as the misaligned tailgate. Everyone can see that the rear light bar is crooked.

So, I waited a month for the first appointment to get it fixed. The invoice says it's repaired, but it looks exactly the same as before.

Moreover, there is now a dent in my fender that Tesla says they will replace at my next appointment, which is another month away.

Now I have to worry about whether they will damage a fender, create more panel gaps, or cause misalignments.

It's going to be a year of monthly service center visits until things are fixed. What an inconvenience!

I included a picture of the front frunk trim; they added a small sharp dent to the edge of that panel as well.

And for those wondering, I had them check the A/C because it was extremely loud, and they said that's normal after inspecting it. Perhaps it's a 20° cold morning issue. That might explain these dents.

Below his post, the Cybertruck owner shared several pictures showing the misaligned tailgate, uneven panel gaps and several dents and scratches.

This is definitely not an ideal situation, and looking at the comments, several other Cybertruck owners shared they are facing similar misalignment issues, and after multiple service center visits, Tesla hasn’t been able to fix the defects.

A fellow Cybertruck owner from Texas writes…

“What’s sad is I’ve seen more than one tailgate worse than yours. They always seem to have this problem on new models, but you’d think they could figure it out eventually.”

Another Cybertruck owner from Virginia shares these sentiments, writing…

“My Cybertruck has been back to service 4 times with this exact issue and it has not been fixed.

Same with the driver door. I tried to fix the driver door, not so easy as the door is thick and heavy and the alignment is minuscule. My tailgate is off at least as much as yours.

If you find the "magic sauce" let me know!”

A third Cybertruck owner from Boston, Massachusetts writes…

“I’m sorry you’re going through this, and I agree, it’s incredibly frustrating how Tesla lets their service techs get away with things like this.”

I got mine 3 months ago and have already had two service visits (with a 3rd scheduled) because they can’t fix the little things correctly the first time or don’t order the parts until I show up for the service appointment. What on earth?

I asked them to make some minor adjustments to a few small panels that are slightly misaligned. They noted on the service invoice that everything was fixed, but I can tell it wasn’t touched at all.

I think they outright lied to make it seem like they did the work, hoping the owner wouldn’t bother to report it again."

After several Cybertruck owners reported ongoing issues despite multiple visits to service centers, the Cybertruck owner from Washington, DC, shares his frustration.

He writes…

“So you’re telling me the tailgate can't be fixed? That's really frustrating. I haven’t driven the truck at all since they dented the left front fender.

I feel that if I ask Tesla to remove the entire front side panel and replace it, it will likely cause more issues.

Additionally, I discovered even more dents on my frunk that were caused during the service center visit."

Overall, build quality and service still seem to be issues with Tesla. However, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Share your ideas by clicking the “Add new comment” button below. Also, make sure to visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.

Looks to me his very first mistake is trusting whatever the salesman told him, of course the salesman would say whatever to make the sale....
Never drive a lemon off the lot should be the very red flag to watch for.

I'd say the first mistake was shelling out a fortune to be part of the JOKE of the auto industry! Most new car designs face at least 8 maybe 10 recall issues (well over a dozen starts to get into LEMON territory), but I do believe the Cybertruck's recall issues have numbered in the HUNDREDS!

I don't have any sympathy for anyone would put trust in to a company owned by the muskrat. Further down the economic scale, I don't give a damn if you are losing benefits, or your job, if you believed the orange pompous bigots lies and voted for tRump. My heart goes out to those affected by his admin but didn't vote for him.

MMMMMM, let's think about this
for minute! MAYBE all of the Tesla truck owners with all of theses problems "should" be able to report all of the issues to a Goverment FEDERAL department, where a RECALL and or the LEMON LAW would take effect! What do you all 'truckies' think, ever hear of a Federal Government Department like this: you know where they would look into these types of problems with any and all products sold in the United States of America?
Think hard now!.....oh right musk is the FEDERAL Government NOW....!
Good luck suckers, you're going to need it.

So true! It can not hall anything, it can not pull anything, it can not be used (driven) any where except paved roads.....you get the idea, right.
It looks like a common door wedge to.
There are millions of better ways to blow a hundred grand or more than on a "lawn ornament"!
There are some absolutely great looking trucks in the road in that price range or less costly.
The problem here is musk hired a bunch of teenagers to do the repairs on your vehicles, and yes they are most likely the same teenagers WHO drump and musk let loose in our federal governments CLASSIFIED and PERSONAL information offices.

NOW YOU KNOW FOR SURE THAT "big brother" IS WATCHING YOU

Elon is NOT getting what he deserves. He does are if the trucks are defective because he’s already got the money from these people who paid $100k for a chunk of crap. Meanwhile, Musk just keeps getting richer.

It’s why he’s running the country… money = power.

It's become their way of doing business. First few deliveries I thought the company is growing at scale and facing scaling pains. But it's really the tactical incognito careless face they have thrived to be out there. Completely similar experience and lack of coherence of value of customers time.. it was easy for them as their market valuation was at the top..now feel the pain as buyers beware and buyers like you speak up and also make us speak up .. not fun after spending 100k getting lured on their highly depreciating asset.

If the tailgate is misaligned and they can’t fix it that’s because the frame of the car is misaligned. They tricked you into keeping a defective Truck. SMH. Give it back demand a different one.

I haven’t had any issue with my cybertruck other than the recalls. My truck was repaired in a timely manner and the service location was excellent. People keep asking me what has gone wrong and I don’t have anything to say. My truck is great

Let's be honest here. the only reason this ONE vehicle made the news is because it's a cyber truck and you guys want to dump onTesla/Musk. This happens in automotive, to EVERY BRAND, and usually numbers in the hundreds if not thousands of recalls... But you keep pushing your agenda.....

Thanks for the laugh. Tesla has one of the lowest QC scores of all brands and what’s great is that repairability is next to nothing due to manufacturing methods. Lol. No agenda, just people calling like it is. Good luck in your reality.

Yeah okay, most recalls aren't this blatant of poor craftmanship! Elon just wants numbers he doesn't give a crap what he delivers. He is not an engineer is not a genius is just a devious thief that stole this company from the real inventors. Haha

You are all idiots!!! These trucks look like rejects from pinewood derby days in cub scouts when you got a block of wood, 4 wheels, 2 axles, and you carved a car out of it. They looked a damn site better in the 70's then these trucks do in 2024. You're dumb for paying $100,000 for this piece of crap...you get what you pay for... Good luck!!!?????

With all the incompetent and probably inexperience in an Elon Musk company , I don't blame NASA one iota for turning down Musk's offer to send his toy rocket to transport the ISS astronauts back to earth. NASA wants them to be alive when they get back home.

Your comment is contradictory to what I read just yesterday. SpaceX is scheduled to go pick up the 2 astronauts in a few weeks. Remember NASA is affiliated with the government who can't find their way out of a paper sack with a hole in it!

Naw, by and large government agencies operate effectively. Much of it is contracted out in the first place.

Republicans have built their power base attacking our government, but they only know how to tear things down. They are ready to throw out what is working just fine without having built an alternative.

This is what happens when you buy a Cyber truck lol, what did this guy expect? A good vehicle? A fictional vehicle? You'll get neither with this POS.

Torsolino Rotanti (not verified)    March 7, 2025 - 7:43AM

The loving Father of the Cybertruck (among many questionable things) is now dismantling the Federal Government using the same developmental template as on the CT with the same sort of presumptive enthusiasm. Do not be surprised when the windows fall out of the Body Politic, stewing the wreckage from here to Mars

Bill (not verified)    March 7, 2025 - 7:43AM

Sorry to hear all you Tesla owners are having these issues, but you bought a vehicle from a company and owner that treats their employees like shit. Knows nothing about building anything and is a liar. So you all deserve your problems and issues, to the guy who took a new damaged Tesla. You're an idiot, I got some land you might be interested in. You fell for the oldest sales trick, enjoy your $100,000 piece of junk
