A brand-new Cybertruck owner from Washington, D.C., says he accepted delivery of a defective Cybertruck because a Tesla representative assured him the issue would be easy to fix.
The Cybertruck has a visibly misaligned tailgate, several uneven panel gaps, and produces a deafening noise when the HVAC is on.
Tesla assured him that the issue would be easy to fix during a service visit; however, after taking delivery, the Cybertruck owner was astonished to find out that the earliest Tesla could schedule him for service was a month later.
This is certainly not ideal; first, Tesla is pressuring the Cybertruck buyer to accept delivery despite a visible defect.
Second, the EV maker says there will be no service opening to address these issues for an entire month.
This is definitely frustrating, however, the Cybertruck owner states he waited a month for his service appointment and brought his brand-new vehicle in for repairs.
However, to his dismay, Tesla returned the vehicle without fixing any of the issues. Even worse, Tesla returned the vehicle damaged, adding more dents and scratches on the truck.
This is certainly not an exemplary treatment for a customer who purchased a $100,000 truck.
However, if you think this is bad, the Cybertruck owner now has to wait another month for a service opening. This is to address both the original problems identified during delivery and the new damage caused during the first service visit.
The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.
He writes…
“I'm a new Tesla owner. I picked up my Cybertruck a month ago.
The biggest issue with my Cybertruck is a misaligned tailgate. It’s truly the worst problem with the car, which Tesla assured me would be an easy fix, so I went ahead and accepted the delivery.
Sure, there are other concerns about panel gaps that I've mentioned before, but they don't bother me as much as the misaligned tailgate. Everyone can see that the rear light bar is crooked.
So, I waited a month for the first appointment to get it fixed. The invoice says it's repaired, but it looks exactly the same as before.
Moreover, there is now a dent in my fender that Tesla says they will replace at my next appointment, which is another month away.
Now I have to worry about whether they will damage a fender, create more panel gaps, or cause misalignments.
It's going to be a year of monthly service center visits until things are fixed. What an inconvenience!
I included a picture of the front frunk trim; they added a small sharp dent to the edge of that panel as well.
And for those wondering, I had them check the A/C because it was extremely loud, and they said that's normal after inspecting it. Perhaps it's a 20° cold morning issue. That might explain these dents.
Below his post, the Cybertruck owner shared several pictures showing the misaligned tailgate, uneven panel gaps and several dents and scratches.
This is definitely not an ideal situation, and looking at the comments, several other Cybertruck owners shared they are facing similar misalignment issues, and after multiple service center visits, Tesla hasn’t been able to fix the defects.
A fellow Cybertruck owner from Texas writes…
“What’s sad is I’ve seen more than one tailgate worse than yours. They always seem to have this problem on new models, but you’d think they could figure it out eventually.”
Another Cybertruck owner from Virginia shares these sentiments, writing…
“My Cybertruck has been back to service 4 times with this exact issue and it has not been fixed.
Same with the driver door. I tried to fix the driver door, not so easy as the door is thick and heavy and the alignment is minuscule. My tailgate is off at least as much as yours.
If you find the "magic sauce" let me know!”
A third Cybertruck owner from Boston, Massachusetts writes…
“I’m sorry you’re going through this, and I agree, it’s incredibly frustrating how Tesla lets their service techs get away with things like this.”
I got mine 3 months ago and have already had two service visits (with a 3rd scheduled) because they can’t fix the little things correctly the first time or don’t order the parts until I show up for the service appointment. What on earth?
I asked them to make some minor adjustments to a few small panels that are slightly misaligned. They noted on the service invoice that everything was fixed, but I can tell it wasn’t touched at all.
I think they outright lied to make it seem like they did the work, hoping the owner wouldn’t bother to report it again."
After several Cybertruck owners reported ongoing issues despite multiple visits to service centers, the Cybertruck owner from Washington, DC, shares his frustration.
He writes…
“So you’re telling me the tailgate can't be fixed? That's really frustrating. I haven’t driven the truck at all since they dented the left front fender.
I feel that if I ask Tesla to remove the entire front side panel and replace it, it will likely cause more issues.
Additionally, I discovered even more dents on my frunk that were caused during the service center visit."
Overall, build quality and service still seem to be issues with Tesla. However, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Share your ideas by clicking the “Add new comment” button below. Also, make sure to visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.

Just like the main stream media. Want to attack Musk because he's trying to help Trump cut waist. You are showing your evident left lean. It's a shame we can''t trust most media. When is the last time you bashed Ford or Chevy for their low quality?. Especially when Tesla has a much higher quality vehicle.

I work for a South Korean owned and ran tier 1 supplier that makes structural stamped parts for the Cybertruck. The data is always out of tolerance and is manipulated to be in tolerance. It is no wonder why this person's unit was and still is defective. At the inception of the Tesla accepting parts from this supplier (and likely others) they didn't even require a standard practice in aerospace and automotive industries called a PPAP (production part approval process) to prove statistical capability of the parts and their process. Another high end luxury electric car manufacturer is getting parts made at this facility and the manipulation of data has already started during the PPAP stage! And the customer is none the wiser. Absolutely disgusting! Tesla cars are absolute junk because of this.

In my state, the lemon law is able to be envoked after 3 attempts to service the vehicle for the same problem. It's pretty easy to do really. You don't have to live with problems like this. Just make them take it back.

As an individual who has worked in automotive manufacturing, specifically body operations, for no small number of years, I seen the Cyber truck and abomination as far as fit and finish. Since seeing one up close I have not been able to unsee all the surface defects in the body panels, and that's just under ambient lighting. I would probably never be able to sleep again out of sheer horror if I ever viewed one in a light tunnel!

I can certainly sympathize. Receiving a brand new damaged vehicle regardless of the price, would be disturbing. I can't help wonder what Ford or Chevy's website must read like.

These are the ugliest vehicles on the road, they look like they were made by a 7th grade child using a brake press. Why anyone would choose to be seen in one is beyond me and you actually accepted delivery of one that was also defective? What did your parents actually get you to learn?

How on earth are people still buying these? The original prototype looked 'cool' for a minute. Then they delivered this monstrosity. I know all car makers have recalls, but this thing has surely broken all recall/customer complaint records. Have any of these people seen the latest Cybertruck frame stress test? What drives people to want a Cybertruck?

I feel as though he made a big mistake accepting the delivery. I would absolutely not accept a damaged brand new $100,000.00 Anything. I would say fix it quick or I want my money back and reject the delivery until you have what you paid for. Big naive mistake Brother.
Not knocking the guy for it, but just remember, in this life some people will have your back no matter what, and on the other end someone wants to sell you snake oil...
On a whole I don't like Tesla's business model, they should have made a safe, cheap mode of transportation, Elon was saying electric cars save 10 grand on not having the complexity of an internal combustion engine, but then the cheapest thing they sell is 30 grand.
And they do not want you to work on it, they want you to come to them so they can scalp you because only they have the software permissions to replace anything.
Elon should have done some research first, do you want to help the masses have safe transportation? Or just make luxury cars that don't work in the North during winter?
I'm a blue collar guy, none of my coworkers want a Overpriced car let alone an electric one that's luxury and completely different than what they are used to. He didn't have an instrument panel in front of the driver, no a big 17 inch flat screen.
He didn't want normal doors, he wanted automatic opening and closing doors, which is completely unnecessary and a huge waste of money. He should have copied one of the best selling cars like a 96 Honda Civic, the cheapest one sold brand new for $14,600.00 and with his logic that electric motors save ten grand on a vehicles price, he should have tried to be in that price point and overwhelmed the market with a cheap and safe and effective mode of transportation.
Once you have that down, then make your luxury models... I don't know anyone that has a Tesla because all my friends cannot afford a $100k vehicle. Master the basics first. Then get fancy... If someone gave me a Tesla, I would drive it and give an honest report of my experiences, but I can't afford the cheapest Tesla, so that's that and we're done... I would just sell it ASAP, after an honest review. $12 grand to have a 220 voltage charger in your garage... No thanks...
