It looks like even before the Apple EV car we may see Tesla electric vehicles made by Apple iPhone producer Foxconn.

Foxconn, a Taiwanese electronics company, is already known for assembling Apple’s ubiquitous iPhones. But on Tuesday, Foxconn Chairman Liu Young-way noted that Foxconn is now looking at electric vehicle manufacturing as its new frontier — and it is hoping to assemble EVs for Tesla in the future.

So Foxconn chairman Liu Young-way said he hopes one day Foxconn can do Tesla cars for Tesla. Here is what he told Reuters. “Based on our past records for the PC and cellphone markets… we’re at about 40-45% of the overall market share. So, ambitions-wise, hopefully we are able to achieve the same kind of achievement like in the ICT industry, but we will start small, which is about 5% in 2025. I hope one day we can do Tesla cars for Tesla,” Liu said, according to a Reuters report.

Foxconn hopes one day it can make Tesla cars in Taiwan. But why would Tesla ever want to pay a third party to manufacture its own cars, when it is doing such a great job itself? Hypothetically, if it enabled them to increase production quicker and increase profitability. In practice, it seems unlikely. On the other hand, Tesla might be making phones and computers for sale one day. But that's unlikely for now.
